    Happy New Year! We hope you had a fabulous Christmas break! We have made some changes to the spelling homework. Please see the attached handout. Hopefully these changes will help students who continue to struggle with their spelling and ease the workload for those who continually do well.

    Website Update A very easy extra credit opportunity


    Over the break, Mrs. Embry set up our websites guestbook. We are offering a very easy extra credit opportunity. First, have your child go to the class website and give you a tour. When they arrive to the guestbook page, they need to type a sentence or two explaining their favorite part of the website. Make sure they remember to sign their name. For doing this quick activity your child will receive 10 extra credit points in each class! Wow! How easy it that? You can even access the website from your Smartphone. Students are on the website daily at school for listen to reading so they all should know how to get on it. If not, the website address is listed above.

    January 3 First Day Back! January 5 PTA Skate Party @ PRP Skate Zone 6:30-8:30 January 6 End of 3rd 6 weeks grading period (all missing work is due on January 6th)

    Xtramath
    If you have internet access, we hope you are taking full advantage of the opportunity to use Xtramath at home. Students are on it daily at school and any additional help you can give in mastering their addition and subtraction facts is wonderful! If your child has lost the password we sent home with them, please let us know. We will send home another copy of the letter.

    VERY IMPORTANT PLEASE READ


    Spelling
    We will be changing our homework packets. From this week on, Mrs. Embry will only include 2 practice tests in the homework packet. Mrs. Embry suggests the following schedule to assist your student in learning the words: 1. Give a practice test on Monday evening 2. Have your student complete any 3 of the activities on the Spelling Menu only for the words he/she MISSED on the practice test 3. Give a practice test on Thursday evening 4. Have your student write the MISSED words from the Thursday test 10 times each Mrs. Embry will not be grading any of the activities from the Spelling Menu. They are only in place to help students practice for the test on Friday.

    Reading Logs
    Many reading logs are being turned in with poor penmanship and without being signed. They are also being turned in without complete summaries written IN A COMPLETE SENTENCE WITH PROPER CAPITALIZATION. We will no longer be accepting reading logs that are not filled out correctly. This is our way to ensure students are reading, EVERYNIGHT. The only way for your student to become a better reader is to READ. Please take the time to work with your student on the reading log.

    Personal Information Test


    It is very important for your child to know his/her personal information (full name, address, birthday, and phone number). Friday will be the last test of the grading period to demonstrate this knowledge. Students must know this information as well as how to correctly spell it.
