GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:
 Holiday Homework must be done in a very neat and presentable manner.
 Homework will be assessed on the basis of, creativity, presentation and completion of all the questions
& indexing of work.
 Avoid cutting and overwriting.
 Creativity and Originality of work will be appreciated.
 Read the instructions carefully under each subject and submit it accordingly.
 SUBMISSION OF HOLIDAY HOMEWORK: The last date of submission of the Homework is 6th July,
2024.
 Do all the Activities/Project work, as directed, the holiday homework is a part of internal assessment
as per CBSE guidelines.

ENGLISH
PROJECT WORK

Suggestions for Project Work:

 The Project can be inter-disciplinary in theme. The ideas/issues highlighted in the chapters/
poems/ drama given in the prescribed books can also be developed in the form of a project.
 Students can also take up any relevant and age-appropriate theme.

a) Interview-Based research:
Example:
 Students can choose any topic for their research/ interview, e.g. a student can choose
the topic : “ Evolving food tastes in my neighbourhood” or “Corona pandemic and the fallout on
families.” Read the available literature.
 The students to conduct an interview with a few neighbours on the selected topic.
 For an interview, student will frame questions based on the preliminary research/background.
 The student will then write an essay/ write up / report etc. up to 1000 words on his/her research
and submit it.

b) Students will listen to podcasts/ interviews/radio or TV documentary on a topic and prepare a


report countering or agreeing with the speakers. Write an 800 - 1000 words report and submit.

c) Students will write, direct and present a theatrical production, /One act play. It will involve
planning, preparation and presentation. In short, various language skills will be utilised. There will be
researching, discussion, writing the script, auditioning and ultimately producing the play.

CHEMISTRY
PRACTICAL WORK
Kindly adhere to the following guidelines to prepare lab manual:-

1. In an Experiment, Write the following: Aim, Material required, Procedure, Observation, Calculations,
Precautions, Results.
2. On Plain page, Write the following (Only With Pencil): Aim, Material required, Observation table,
Diagram, Actual Calculations.
3. On Lining page, you have to write the following (Use Black Pen for heading and Blue Pen for its
explanation): Aim, Material required, Procedure, Precautions, Calculations, Results.

Complete the following experiments in chemistry Lab Manual.


A. Surface Chemistry
(a) Preparation of one lyophilic and one lyophobic sol Lyophilic sol - starch, egg albumin and gum Lyophobic
sol - aluminium hydroxide, ferric hydroxide, arsenous sulphide.

B. Chromatography i) Separation of pigments from extracts of leaves and flowers by paper


chromatography and determination of Rf values. ii) Separation of constituents present in an inorganic
mixture containing two cations only (constituents having large difference in Rf values to be provided).
C. Preparation of Inorganic Compounds Preparation of double salt of Ferrous Ammonium Sulphate or
Potash Alum. Preparation of Potassium Ferric Oxalate.
D. Preparation of Organic Compounds Preparation of any one of the following compounds i) Acetanilide
ii) Di -benzalAcetone iii) p-Nitroacetanilide iv) Aniline yellow or 2 - Naphthol Anilinedye.
E. Tests for the functional groups present in organic compounds: Unsaturation, alcoholic, phenolic,
aldehydic, ketonic, carboxylic and amino (Primary) groups.
F. Characteristic tests of carbohydrates, fats and proteins in pure samples and their detection in given
foodstuffs.
G. Determination of concentration/ molarity of KMnO4 solution by titrating it against a standard solution
of: i) Oxalic acid, ii) Ferrous Ammonium Sulphate (Students will be required to prepare standard solutions
by weighing themselves)
H. Qualitative analysis Determination of one cation and one anion in a given salt.
Cation : Pb2+, Cu2+ As3+, Aℓ3+, Fe3+, Mn2+, Zn2+, Cu2+, Ni2+, Ca2+, Sr2+, Ba2+, Mg2+, NH4 + Anions:
(CO3) 2- , S2- , (SO3) 2- , (NO2) - , (SO4) 2- , Cℓ - , Br- , I- , PO3- 4, (C2O4) 2- , CH3COO- ,NO3 –

PROJECT WORK
Make an investigatory project on any one of the given topic.
A few suggested Projects
 Study of the presence of oxalate ions in guava fruit at different stages of ripening.
 Study of quantity of casein present in different samples of milk.
 Preparation of soybean milk and its comparison with the natural milk with respect to curd formation,
effect of temperature, etc.
 Study of the effect of Potassium Bisulphate as food preservative under various conditions
(temperature, concentration, time, etc.)
 Study of digestion of starch by salivary amylase and effect of pH and temperature on it.
 Comparative study of the rate of fermentation of following materials: wheat flour, gram flour, potato
juice, carrot juice, etc.
 Extraction of essential oils present in Saunf (aniseed), Ajwain (carum), Illaichi (cardamom).
 Study of common food adulterants in fat, oil, butter, sugar, turmeric power, chilli powder and pepper.

PHYSICS
PRACTICAL WORK
Kindly adhere to the following guidelines to prepare lab manual:-

SECTION A (EXPERIMENTS)
1. To determine resistivity of two / three wires by plotting a graph for potential difference versus current.
2. To find resistance of a given wire / standard resistor using metre bridge
3. To verify the laws of combination (series) of resistances using a metre bridge.
4. To convert the given galvanometer (of known resistance and figure of merit) into a voltmeter of
desired range and to verify the same.

SECTION A (ACTIVITIES)
1. To assemble the components of a given electrical circuit.
2. To measure resistance, voltage (AC/DC), and current (AC) and check the continuity of a given circuit
using a multimeter.
3. To draw the diagram of a given open circuit comprising at least a battery, resistor/rheostat, key,
ammeter, and voltmeter. Mark the components that are not connected in proper order and correct the
circuit and also the circuit diagram.

SECTION B (EXPERIMENTS)

1. To find the value of v for different values of u in the case of a concave mirror and to find the focal
length.
2. To find the focal length of a convex mirror, using a convex lens.
3. To determine the angle of minimum deviation for a given prism by plotting a graph between the angle
of incidence and the angle of deviation.
4. To draw the I-V characteristic curve for a p-n junction in forward bias and reverse bias.

SECTION B (ACTIVITIES)

1. To identify a diode, an LED, a resistor, and a capacitor from a mixed collection of such items\
2. To study the effect of intensity of light (by varying distance of the source) on an LDR.
3. To observe refraction and lateral deviation of a beam of light incident obliquely on a glass slab

PRACTICAL WORK
Instructions:-
1. All the diagrams should be drawn on plain sheet of Lab Manual.
2. Writing portion (Aim, Pre-Requisite Knowledge, Materials Required, Preparation, Observation) should
be written on the ruled sheet of Lab Manual.
3. Use Black and Blue Pen Only.

1. To verify that the relation R in the set L of all lines in a plane, defined by R = {(l, m) : l ⊥ m} is symmetric
but neither reflexive or transitive.
2. To demonstrate a function which is not one one but is onto.
3. To explore the principal value of the function 𝑠𝑖𝑛−1 (x) using a unit circle.
4. To find analytically the limit of a function f(x) at x =c and also to check the continuity of the function at
that point.
5. To understand the concepts of decreasing and increasing functions.
6. To understand the concept of local maxima, local minima and point of inflection.
7. To construct an open box of maximum volume from a given rectangular sheet by cutting equal squares
from each corner.
8. To verify that angle in a semicircle is a right angle using vector method.
9. To measure the shortest distance between two skew lines and verify it analytically.

A. List of Experiments
1. Prepare a temporary mount to observe pollen germination.
2. Study the plant population density by quadrant method.
3. Study the plant population frequency by quadrant method.
4. Prepare a temporary mount of onion root tip to study mitosis.
5. Isolate DNA from available plant material such as spinach, green pea seeds, papaya, etc.

B. Study and observe the following (Spotting):


1. Flowers adapted to pollination by different agencies (wind, insects, and birds).
2. Pollen germination on stigma through a permanent slide or scanning electron micrograph.
3. Identification of stages of gamete development, i.e., T.S. of testis and T.S. of ovary through permanent
slides (from grasshopper/mice).
4. Meiosis in onion bud cell or grasshopper testis through permanent slides.
5. T.S. of blastula through permanent slides (Mammalian).
6. Mendelian inheritance using seeds of different colour/sizes of any plant.
7. Prepared pedigree charts of any one of the genetic traits such as rolling of tongue, blood groups, ear
lobes, widow's peak and colour blindness.
8. Controlled pollination - emasculation, tagging and bagging.
9. Common disease-causing organisms like Ascaris, Entamoeba, Plasmodium, or any fungus-causing
ringworm through permanent slides, models, virtual images, or specimens. Comment on symptoms of
diseases that they cause.
10. Models specimen showing symbolic association in root modules of leguminous plants, Cuscuta on host,
lichens.
11. Flashcard models showing examples of homologous and analogous organs.

Still Life- Five coloured sheets with minimum three objects using any colour as a medium.
REFERENCE:

Composition - Five figurative compositions with minimum three human figures using medium water
colours.

analytical tools out of the given four tools:

- Design the product.
- Mention its features.
- Mention its Unique Selling Proposition (USP)
- Design the packaging of the product.
- Create a tagline for your product.
- Prepare a logo.
- Identify the target market for your product (Conduct a survey and prepare a Questionnaire)
- Create a label.
- Prepare a cost sheet and fix the prices this of the product to
 Manufacturer

- Also plan the way in which you will promote your product weather you will choose advertising, sales
promotion, personal selling or publicity
- Which channels of distribution will you use to sell your product?
- What mode of transportation will you select for ensuring that it reaches the final customer?
- What social message will you transmit to the masses while marketing your product?

Above are detailed instructions for making your project on marketing management.

The rough draft of the project must be submitted in loose sheets on the day when you come after
vacations.

OR

Conduct marketing research by using the tools like questionnaires, interviews or observations in order to
check the applicability of 14 principles given by Fayol in any kind of business organization whether trading
or manufacturing. Submit rough draft on loose sheets in a folder on the day when you come after the
vacations.

MANDATORY CBSE ASSIGNMENT


The 1st Expression Series for the academic session 2024-25 will be organized by CBSE on the theme NEP 2020
