Visitation Introduction of Assemblyman for Tatanaa North Electoral Area Mr. Hanson Tei M-Gizo, the Assemblyman for the Tatanaa North Electoral Area, was introduced to the house. He informed the house that he intended to facilitate the registration of students who had not yet been enrolled in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in order to ensure they receive the necessary health coverage. 5. Agenda 1. Welcome The Headmaster warmly welcomed all members to the meeting. 2. Academic Calendar The Headmaster informed the house that the first semester for Form 2 students would run from 8th March to 9th May 2024. He expressed concern that the current Form 2 students were at a disadvantage due to the limited time they would spend in school. He advised parents to ensure that students make productive use of their time during vacation to make up for the shortened semester. 3. Discipline The Headmaster stated that the school was doing its best to maintain discipline. Unfortunately, a few recalcitrant students tarnished the school's reputation in recent times. He urged parents to collaborate with management in enforcing discipline among students. Going forward, any student who fails to comply with school rules will face sanctions, and no excuses will be entertained. 4. Dining/Feeding The Headmaster assured the house that students have been enjoying quality meals at the dining hall. He warned that any student who misrepresents the situation to the media or makes false claims will face serious consequences. He reminded parents not to generalize issues based on media reports, as every school has its own challenges when it comes to feeding. Some students deceive their parents by claiming the meals are substandard, only to request extra money. He cautioned students against making false claims about the meals if they choose not to eat from the dining hall. 5. Management of Students’ Pocket Money The Headmaster advised parents to refrain from depositing money at the school canteen for their children. He suggested that any extra money intended for students should be given to their housemasters instead. He explained that when students have excessive money, they tend to engage in negative activities, including gambling. 6. Vacation The Headmaster clarified that once students vacate, the school is not responsible for their safe travel home. While the school prays for their safe arrival, it cannot be held accountable for any incidents that may occur during their journey home. 7. 2023 WASSCE Results The Headmaster presented the 2023 WASSCE results, which were as follows: • Social Studies: 95% pass rate • English Language: 99% pass rate • Core Mathematics: 94.7% pass rate • Integrated Science: 98.8% pass rate While the overall performance was commendable, the school did not achieve its target. Only 10 students obtained 8As. The Headmaster encouraged all stakeholders to work together to improve the school's academic performance. 8. Official School Outfit The Headmaster highlighted that the school has customized blazers and ties. He encouraged parents to purchase these outfits for their children, as they boost students' confidence. Interested parents were advised to contact the school for assistance in acquiring these items. 9. Appreciation The Headmaster expressed his gratitude to the PTA for their ongoing support, noting that old students are also contributing to various projects. However, he emphasized that there is still much work to be done. He called on all parents to participate in the projects being undertaken in their children’s houses. Additionally, he appealed to the house for assistance in purchasing a new polytank for the kitchen. 6. Address by 2. Address by Hon. Sheila Bartels Parents Hon. Sheila Bartels appealed to parents to take an active role in improving the lives of the students and maintaining the school's dignity. She emphasized that despite the introduction of free SHS, parents are still expected to contribute both financially and in other ways to help make the school great. She urged parents not to sit on the fence but to fully engage in the school's progress and student welfare. 3. Address by Dr. Juliana A. Appiah-Ahuno Dr. Juliana A. Appiah-Ahuno encouraged parents to develop a relationship with their sons' housemasters and actively listen to their children's concerns. She advised parents to regularly visit the school to become familiar with the environment and monitor their children’s well- being. She further recommended visiting the dining hall to better understand the students’ living conditions and to ensure that the students' well-being remains the top priority for all parents. 7. 4. Update on Projects by Mr. Daniel A. Adjei – Treasurer Mr. Daniel A. Adjei, the Treasurer, expressed gratitude to parents for their contributions toward various ongoing projects. He highlighted several key initiatives that have been made possible through these contributions, including: • Refurbishment of the dining halls • Tiling of the kitchen • Catfish production • Farming initiatives • Recruitment of additional kitchen staff • Recruitment of security personnel • Organization of standard mock examinations, among others • He commended parents for their continuous support, which has significantly improved the school's facilities and operations.
5. Appeal by Madam Nicholina – Vice Chairman
Madam Nicholina, the Vice Chairman, also took the opportunity to appeal to parents to continue supporting these efforts. She emphasized the importance of parental involvement in ensuring the continued success and development of the school. 8. Response to Additional Updates and Information reactions 1. Suppliers Desk: parents were informed that a registration desk would be available for them to sign up for required items, and the supplier would be contacted to facilitate delivery. 2. Vacation School: The school organizes a vacation school for students during their break, allowing them to continue learning. Additionally, online sessions were available for students to utilize during vacation. 3. Dispatch of Students' Reports: The students’ reports had been dispatched to the addresses provided during registration. Parents who had not received them were advised to contact the Assistant Headmaster, Academics, to ensure corrections were made if necessary. 4. Prompt Action on Issues: Parents were urged to seek redress for specific issues as they arise rather than waiting for general meetings. This would help resolve concerns in a timely manner. 5. Cross-Checking Exam Details: Parents were reminded to double-check their wards' details, such as names and other information, before the final examinations to avoid any errors. 6. Investigations to Avoid Generalizations: The school management assured parents that detailed investigations would be conducted into matters affecting students to avoid generalizations. 7. Avenues for Student Redress: Parents were informed that the school has set up proper channels for students to seek redress for any concerns or issues they may have. 8. House 14 Opened: House 14 had been opened for use, and some Form 2 students were assigned to the new facility. 9. School Streets Asphalting: The school streets were being asphalted, and the Headmaster expressed gratitude for the support provided for this project. 10. Desk Delivery: The school had taken delivery of 500 new desks, but unfortunately, this was insufficient to fully address the desk shortage. The Headmaster called for further support from anyone who could assist. 11. Healthcare Policy: The Headmaster clarified that healthcare within the school was not free, though first aid services were provided at no cost. Parents who prefer their wards to be treated outside the school are free to take them to any external facility of their choice. 12. Kidnapping Case Update: The Headmaster provided a brief update on the alleged kidnapping case, assuring the house that the matter had been addressed.
