IFFHI. OBJECTIVE
A. Content Standard The learners demonstrate an
understanding of
a.how atoms combine with other atoms
by transferring or by sharing electrons,

B. Performance Standard The learners should be able to

a. illustrate the formation of ionic
compound and covalent
compound.

C. Learning Competency/ Objective At the end of the lesson, students should be

able to:
Write code for each 1. Explain what is lonic bond;
2. Illustrate the formation of lonic bond;
and
3. Recognize the important of bonding in
real life situation.

II. Content IONIC BONDING

Topic/Tittle:
III. Learning Resources
A. Reference List the materials to be used in different
day. Varied sources of materials sustain
children's interest in the lesson and
learning. Ensure that there is a mix of
concrete and manipulative materials as
well as paper-based materials. Hands-
on learning promotes concept
development.

PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES

 Greetings
Good morning class! Good morning Sir!

Please let's all stand for our prayer Our father in heaven…
In the name of the father the son and the holy
spirit amen
Okay, before you take your seats, please pick
up the pieces of paper and arrange your
chairs.

Please be seated. Thank you, Sir.

 Checking of Attendance
Is there any absent from the class today? None Sir.

 Setting of Standards
Before we start, I will give rules for you to
follow.
First, avoid unnecessary noises.
Second, raise your hand if you want to
answer or ask questions. Do not talk or
answer in chorus. Understood? Yes, Sir.
A. ELICIT

Let's have a short recap about our Sir, we discuss about the Lewis
topic last meeting. Symbol. Gilbert Lewis
Chemist who discovered the
Lewis structures
Very Good!

Now how about the Electron configuration? Electron configuration describes the arrangement
of electrons in the electron shells and subshells of
an atom. It's a fundamental concept in chemistry
that helps explain an atom's properties and how it
will interact with other atoms.
That’s correct! It seems that you have fully It takes 24 hours sir to complete one rotation.
understood the earth’s motion.

B. ENGAGE

Before we begin our class today, we

will be having a short activity Yes sir!
entitled "FOUR PICS ONE WORD!"

Are all of you know this game?

Dape/ please bring out 2/4 sheet of
Direction: Using the four pictures Yes sir
and the given scrambled word
below, guess the word that
describes the picture.

Are you ready class?

Answer

MECHICAL BNDIONG
ONN LEAMT TALEM

What can you say about the first set of

pictures? Sir I think that is CHEMICAL

Very Good! thats correct! And the second

pic?
That is BONDING sir!

How about The third picture? It is NON METAL sir

Sir it is METAL
And the last one?
Correct! Very good class

Did you enjoy our first activity?

So, today our topic will be IONIC Yes sir!

BONDING

Now I will show you some videos

regarding of how ions are formed Watching videos….

Alright since you already watch the videos

What have you observed? Sir we observed that in order to balance the
elements it needs 8 valence electron, that’s why
the other elements need to their share electron
Very Good!

C. EXPLORE

Now let’s have some by group activity

Lets divide the class into 2 groups and all you Students preparing…
need to do is having a brainstorming
And you need to have a representative to
answer in the board, whos group will got the
correct answer have the corresponding score (The students will perform their task)
of 10 and the second is 5 points

Activity:

Write the lewis symbol of selected element.

With the use of an arrow, show the complete Group 1 and group 2 answering
transfer of electron.
Answer
Elements: . ..
Na ------- :Cl:
Na Cl |________ ..

Alright every clap yourselves 123 Clap clap clap

Did you enjoy our activity?

Yes sir. We’ve enjoy the activity!

What have you learned? From our Sir the learnings that we shown while doing our
activity? activity are cooperation and like the ion we need
to bond each other

Very Good!

No sir
Is there any clarifications? If none, then lets
proceed.
D. EXPLAIN
So class, what is the ionic bond? Ionic bonding is a type of chemical bond that
forms between atoms when one atom transfers one
That’s correct! . Now addition to that. or more electrons to another atom.

Please read about the cation and anion all

about Metals tend to lose electrons, becoming positively
charged ions called cations.

Nonmetals tend to gain electrons, becoming

Example: negatively charged ions called anions.

Sodium (Na) is a metal in Group 1, meaning it has one valence

electron. It readily loses this electron to become a
sodium ion (Na+), with a +1 charge.

Chlorine (Cl) is a nonmetal in Group 17, meaning it has seven

valence electrons. It readily gains one electron to
become a chloride ion (Cl-), with a -1 charge.

Na + Cl
[2,8,1] [2,8,7]

Electron Transfer

Na+ + Cl-
[2,8] [2,8,8]

Any Question? Regarding the ionic bonding?

No sir

Lets proceed to Non polar covalent and polar

There are two types of covalent bond:
covalent Bond
the polar covalent bond and the nopolar
covalent bond. If the electronegativity
Example:
difference is equal to 0,4 or less, it
results to a nopolar covalent bond. If
the electronegativity difference is less
For CO2
than 1.9 and more than 0.4, polar
carbon atom has 4 valence
covalent bond is formed.
electrons oxygen atom has 6
valence electrons
Total Available Valence Electrons
(TAVE) = (1 C atom x 4) + (2 0
atoms x 6)
= 4 + 12
= 16
b. Compute for the Octet Rule
requirement that each atom should
have 8 valence electrons to become
stable.
Number of Electrons based on Octet
Rule = (1 C atom x 8) + (20 atoms x
8)
=8 + 16
= 24
B. Subtract a from b, then divide the
difference by 2 because a pair of
shared electron is equal to 1 bond.
The quotient will give you the
number of bonds around the central
atom.

Number of bonds
(24 - 16)
2

=4

structure:
Thus, there will be 4 bonds
surrounding a carbon atom as
shown in the Lewis
.. .. .. .. ..
:0::C::0: or :0=C=0:

Can you do the same for the next

activity? Let's see!

E. ELABORATE
Again class, what is our lesson today?
Atoms transfer electrons, creating oppositely
charged ions.
Very Good! Strong electrostatic attraction holds ions together
in a rigid lattice.
Found in compounds like salt (NaCl).
How about Covalent Bond?
Atoms share electrons to achieve stability.

Nonpolar: Equal sharing, no charge separation

(like H2).

Polar: Unequal sharing, creates partial charges

(like H2O).

Are there any question regarding our lesson?

Since there are no more question, let’s now

have a short quiz.

F. Evaluate

Kindly answer the 3 ff question within (the students will now begin answering)
5minutes pass your paper finished or
unfinish you may start now

Quiz: Present 1-3 quiz questions:

●What is ionic bonding?

Mg + Cl + Cl
●What are the characteristics of ionic [2,8,2] [2,8,7] [2,8,7]
compounds? Electron Transfer
Mg2+ + Cl- + Cl-
●Draw the Lewis dot structure for [2,8] [2,8,8] [2,8,8]
magnesium chloride (MgCl2). Lewis Dot Structure:
[Mg]2+ [Cl] - [Cl] -

Alright class please pass the paper your to (students will passed their papers)
front in 5 4321
G. EXPLAND

For your assignment

Find 3 things in your house made with ionic

compounds. What are they used for?

Any question with regards to the None sir.

assignments?
If none, then that would be all for today.
Good bye and thank you, Sir edward
Good bye, class!
