A-Line Skirts

This skirt style was named ‘A-Line’ because they fit tightly at the waist,
emphasizing hips and thighs but further down they flare, just like the
shape of a letter ‘A’. It draws attention to the hips because of the
fitting and therefore is very popular amongst curvier women. Some
important variations of this style Godet, Gypsy and the Paneled skirt.

Circular skirt
The reason that this style is named thus is because the hemline
creates a perfect circle. If you’re thinner, go for shorter length and
curvier women may want to consider a longer length because of the
volume. Longer variations of this style are suitable for formal as well as
special occasions.

Accordion
An accordion pleated skirt is one which has a series of pleats of equal
width. These resemble the pleats on a foldable hand fan. The accordion
pleats are heat pressed in opposite directions. These are normally
found in fabrics which could hold these pleats permanently. This kind of
a skirt should be worn by thin people as pleats add volumes to the
body.

Pleated Skirts
Plated skirts appear best in short length, just above the knees.
The flare of this skirt is reduced by plates and it fits the waist.
It looks nice on both, slim and a little plump figures.

Draped skirt
The draped skirt can be worn by all women, as the fabric made for this
dress has a slimming effect.

Gypsy skirts
Fitted in an A-Line style around the waist, but the length extends to the
ankle. Additional paneling or crinkling should be avoided around the
hip area for pear shaped women, as it can draw attention to that area
of the body very easily.

Layered
Layered skirts are skirts with a fabric layer above the main body of the
skirt. The top most layers are normally of a sheer fabric, so that the
bottom layer could be seen through. At times it could be of a different
color to add an element of mystery to it. The layer adds volume to the
skirt and so this shape is recommended for thin frame women.

Mermaid Skirt
The design is similar to a mermaid’s tail by fitting from waist to knees.
It flares out from the knees to the floor.

Tube Skirts
Simply the longer versions of the pencil skirts, Tube skirts fit at the hip
and taper at the hem. The visible difference is that they go down below
the knee. It suits slim figures.

Pencil Skirt
This skirt hugs your body. Its lengthens from the waist to beneath the
knees or down to mid-calf. They come in stretch materials. This one is
preferred for slim and skinny figures.

Mini Skirt
Mini skirts are shorter than knee length. They are just right to reveal a
pair of beautiful legs. This one is inappropriate for the workplace or
highly formal meeting. So ensure that you have selected it for the right
event.

Wrap skirt
This type of skirt is primarily just a rectangular piece of fabric, which
you wrap around your waist. Wraps are suitable for both thinner and
curvier women because the fabric is looser. After you wrap the skirt,
the style may even reflect a straight or A-line skirt.

Asymmetrical Skirt
Asymmetrical skirts is designed in a way that the fabric will have
different lengths on the hems. It is a perfect selection for an evening
out.

Bubble skirt
These skirts employ a hemline that ‘goes in’ all around the skirt at
various points, which create a ‘bulky’ effect to the silhouette. These fall
in and out of fashion, but are worn often enough to justify having one
in your wardrobe. Due to the nature of the strange hemline, fabrics are
usually softer and more flexible.

Godet skirts
Features are fabric in triangular pieces that are inserted from the body
to the hemline. This creates a slimming look for those with a wider
waist, and draws attention from this area to the hemline.

Tulip skirt
Overlapping pieces of fabric like the petals of a tulip form this style of
skirt. Length is usually to the knee or longer, but not below mid-calf.
Again, this style creates a slimming effect and can be considered for
wear by all body types.
Paneled skirts
A-line skirts which have vertical panels of fabric (self or some other
fabric) stitched from the waist to the hem are called paneled skirts.
These have a slimming effect on the wearer and can hence be worn by
the curvier lot.
