B.Sc.

in Mechanical Engineering Date:

WORLD UNIVERSITY OF BANGLADESH

Faculty of Science and Engineering
Department of Mechatronics Engineering

Semester Final Examination Semester: Fall 2024

Course Code:ME07152101 Time: 2 hours
Course Title: Engineering Dynamics Full Marks: 40

There are 5 (Five) questions. Answer any 4 (Four) of the following questions. Each question carries
equal marks. Marks in the margin indicate full marks for that question.

1.

The 6 kg block B starts from rest and slides on the 15 kg wedge A, which is (10)
supported by a horizontal surface. Neglecting friction, determine (a) the
acceleration of the wedge, (b) the acceleration of the block relative to the
wedge.

2.

A block B of mass 3 kg can slide freely on a frictionless arm OA which rotates (10)
in a horizontal plane at a constant rate 15 rad/sec. Knowing that B is released
at a distance r0 from O, express as a function of r, (a) the component v r of the
velocity of B along OA, (b) the magnitude of the horizontal force F exerted on
B by the arm OA.

3.

A 2000-lb car starts from rest at point 1 and moves without friction down the (10)
track shown. (a) Determine the force exerted by the track on the car at point 2,
where the radius of curvature of the track is 20 ft. (b) Determine the minimum
safe value of the radius of curvature at point 3.

4.

A rectangular plate of mass 5 kg suspended from two wires at A and B is hit at (10)
D in a direction perpendicular to the plate. If an impulse of F.t= 50 N.s applied
at D, determine immediately after the impact (a) the velocity of the mass
center G, (b) the angular velocity of the plate. Given, a= 50 mm and b=30 mm.

5.

Ball B, of mass 2 kg is suspended from a cord of length 80 mm attached to cart (10)

A, of mass 5 kg, which can roll freely on a frictionless horizontal track. If the
ball is given an initial horizontal velocity of 3 m/s while the cart is at rest,
determine (a) the velocity of B as it reaches its maximum elevation, (b) the
maximum vertical distance h through which B will rise.
