Here’s how it is!

In a democratic country like the Philippines, the collection of voices from a uniting
society is most visible in some of the country's events, such as EDSA I and II. Its goal of
bringing about change and progress became more successful with the help of ICT tools and
platforms. These ICT tools and platforms altered the way Filipinos communicated. ICT can
be used as a tool for developmental communication and advocacy.

What is Development Communication?

A developmental communication a concerted effort to employ media and
communication procedures. It is very important for every individual in the society to
improve its well-being so they can reach their full potential.

ICT4D (ICT for Development)

It is an initiative aimed at bridging the digital divide (the disparity between
technological “have” and “have not” geographic locations or demographic groups) and
aiding economic development by ensuring equitable access to up-to-date communication
technologies (Contributor 2011).
An example of what one can benefit with the use of ICT4D is that the OFW’s can
communicate with their families easily. One can also receive money through the use of a
mobile phone.

What is Advocacy?
It is the act of speaking for or in support of another person, place, or thing (“Advocacy
Meaning | Best 8 Definitions of Advocacy” n.d.). It involves actions that leads to a certain
goal. It does not necessarily involve confrontation or conflict.
The ICT platforms and tools you use will determine the success of your
developmental communication and advocacy. One of the best platform tool is the social
which you can use to reach a large number of audiences to convey the content of your
campaign. However, there are drawbacks in the world of social media. You need to accept
some of the negative feedbacks coming from your audiences. You must also devote a
significant amount of time for your campaign and wait for your campaign’s development.
