CONTENT STANDARD : 8.1 THE ABILITY OF MATERIALS TO ABSORB WATER
LEARNING STANDARD: 8.1.1 Identify the objects that absorb water and cannot absorb water through investigation.
LEARNING OBJECTIVE: 1. State the objects that absorb water and cannot absorb water.
SUCCESS CRITERIA: 1. Pupils will be able to state 3 objects that absorb water and cannot absorb water correctly.
TEACHING : Activity 1. Pupils will see a “magic in science” presentation from a teacher to drain the water in the cup.
ACTIVITIES : 1 2. Pupils will be asked where the water was poured into the cup just now.
3. The teacher will explain the demonstration briefly and relate it to the topic to be learned today.
: Activity 1. Pupils are divided into 5 groups to do an experiment. (TB page 72)
2 2. Each group will be given tools and materials. (coloured water, dropper, notepad, handkerchief,
tissue paper, rubber, coins, paper clip, cotton balls and plastic toy)
3. Pupils will place all the objects on the table and put drops of coloured water onto the objects.
4. Pupils observe what happens to the coloured water and record the observations in the table
provided.
5. Each group will present the results of their observations.
: Activity Pupils answer the questions in the activity book related to the topic they have learned.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE: 1. Classify objects that absorb water and cannot absorb water.
SUCCESS CRITERIA: 1. Pupils will be able to classify 5 objects that absorb water and cannot absorb water.
TEACHING : Activity 1. Pupils will be given a “crossword puzzle” related to objects in the kitchen.
ACTIVITIES : 1 2. The time taken to find a word is only 5 minute.
3. Pupils will check their friend’s answer once the time is over.
: Activity 1. All pupils are given a basic tree map sheet to classify objects in crossword puzzle (Classify into
2 object that absorb water and cannot absorb water).
2. Pupils will be in their own group and supplied with the tools and materials to create science
project. (scissors, glue, hanger, yarn, puncher, and picture of objects.)
3. Pupils will cut out the picture of the object given and attach it on the manila card.
4. The picture that was pasted on the manila card was cut again and punched on the top.
5. Pupils should tie the yarn to the hanger and label the left and right hanger. Example : Left
(object that absorb water) Right (Object that cannot absorb water)
6. Pupils need to classify the pictures of object and tie the picture to the section labelled.
7. The pupils work will be hung inside the classroom.

investigations.
LEARNING OBJECTIVE: 1. Arrange in sequence the ability of objects to absorb water based on types of materials.
SUCCESS CRITERIA: 1. Pupils will be able to arrange the sequence the ability objects to absorb water based on types of materials
correctly.
TEACHING : Activity 1. 3 pupils will be selected to play the character in the class.
ACTIVITIES : 1 2. A) situation : there was water spilled on the table in the classroom.
Charaster 1 : Wipe water using tissue
Character 2 : Wipe water using cloth
Character 3 : Wipe water using newspaper
3. Pupils will be asked “What is the best materials for wiping water?
: Activity 1. Pupils are divided into 5 groups.
2 2. Each group are given tools and materials. ( a stick, glue, coloured paper, cloth,
newspaper and kitchen paper)
3. The newspaper, kitchen paper and cloth are cut into strips of the same size.
4. The strips was glue onto a stick.
5. The ends of the strips will dip into a beaker containing coloured water and leave it for
one minute.
6. The pupils should observe the water level absorbed by the 3 objects.
7. Pupils will record the objects according to their ability to absorb water based on types of
materials by using “flow map” sheet .
: Activity Pupils answer the questions in the activity book related to the topic they have learned.

LEARNING STANDARD: 8.1.4 State the importance of objects that absorb water and cannot absorb water in daily life.
LEARNING OBJECTIVE: 1. Provide reasoning on the importance of materials that do not absorb water in daily life.
SUCCESS CRITERIA: 1. Pupils will be able to list 3 importance of object that absorb water and cannot absorb water in daily life.
TEACHING : Activity 1. 3 pupils were called forward to conduct a simple investigation.
ACTIVITIES : 1 2. There are 2 beaker containing water that have been provided on the table. Each beaker is labelled
with A and B.
3. Pupils who are in the beaker A will soak up the money RM 1 for one minute.
4. While, pupil who are in the beaker B will soak the tissue inside the beaker for one minute.
5. The other pupils need to predict and make inference about the conditions of the money and tissue
paper.
6. The answer given by the pupils will be write on the white board.
: Activity 1. Before the pupils do the activity , pupils are given an explanation of the importance of materials
2 that absorb water and cannot absorb water in daily life.
2. Pupils will be given 6 pictures on the importance of object that absorb water and object that
cannot absorb water in the worksheet.
3. Pupils should cut and paste the pictures according to the correct statement in worksheet provided
by teacher.
4. Pupils will exchange answer with other friends to check their answer by the guidance of a teacher

SUCCESS CRITERIA: 1. Pupils will be able to solve problems by applying knowledge about the ability of materials to absorb water by
designing object.
TEACHING : Activity 1. Pupils are shown with examples of tools that apply science principles related to absorptions topics.
ACTIVITIES : 1 2. Pupils will be asked what the main use of each of the tools such as umbrella, mop, handkerchief
and cloth.
: Activity 1. Pupils are divided into 5 groups to create a mini mop. (TB page 78 and 79)
2 2. Pupils cut the string into 5 pieces.
3. Pupils tie up the middle of the strings using a piece of thread.
4. Then, pupils pull off the back of apen and remove its content. Pupils insert one end of the thread
and take it out from the nozzle.
5. A string is tie to the nozzle of the pen using a rubber band and covers it with the pen cover. To get
the good result, separate the strings.
6. The most beautiful and creative mini mop will be the winner
