I. OBJECTIVE
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrates understanding of key concepts of quadratic equations,
inequalities and functions, and rational algebraic equations.
B. Performance The learners is able to investigate thoroughly mathematical relationships in various
Standards situations, formulate real-life problems involving quadratic equations, inequalities
and functions, and rational algebraic equations and solve them using a variety of
strategies.
The learner should be able to determine the equation of the quadratic function

A. Reviewing What was our topic last time? Finding the equation of the
previous quadratic function given the
lesson or table of values.
presenting the
new lesson

Motivation/ Before we proceed to our next topic let’s have an

ACTIVITY activity first.
Plot the following ordered pairs in the given table
of values and draw graph.
x -5 -4 -3 -2 -1
y 6 3 2 3 6

Expected answer
ANALYSIS
1. Does the parabola cross the x-axis? No sir

2. Does the function have zeros? No sir

3. What is the vertex of the parabola? (-3,2)

4. Give some points that lie in the parabola aside (-5,6), (-4,3), (-2, 3), (-1, 6)
from the vertex.

In determining the equation of a quadratic

ABSTRACTION function given the graph, the following
steps should be followed:
Who can read the steps?
Step 1: Get the vertex (h,k) and
Yes___
one point (x,y) from the graph,
and substitute in the equation y
= a (x−h)2+ k.

Step 2: solve for the value of a.

Step 3: Write the equation of the

quadratic function in the form y
= a ( x−h)2+ k, using the
obtained value of a and the
For example: vertex (h,k) of the function.

Given the graph

Step 1: Get the vertex (h,k) and one point (x,y)
from the graph, and substitute in the equation y =
a (x−h)2+ k. The vertex is (5,1) and point
(4,3).
Step 2: solve for the value of a. 3 = a (4−5)2+ 1.

Who can volunteer to solve a?

Yes__

3 = a ( 4−5)2+ 1.
3 = a (−1)2+ 1.
3= a + 1
3-1=a
2=a.
Step 3: Write the equation of the quadratic
function in the form y = a (x−h)2+ k, using the
obtained value of a and the vertex (h,k) of the y = a ( x−h)2+ k
function. y = 2 (x−5)2 + 1
Therefore, y = 2 ( x−5)2 + 1 is the equation of
the graph
1. How do you find the equation of the quadratic By following the steps on how
Generalization function given its graph? to find the equation given the
graph.
Step 1: Get the vertex (h,k) and
2. What those steps? one point (x,y) from the graph,
and substitute in the equation y
= a (x−h)2+ k.

Step 2: solve for the value of a.

Step 3: Write the equation of the

quadratic function in the form y
= a ( x−h)2+ k, using the
obtained value of a and the
