Another thing that I would like to adopt from my current Resource Teacher in the future whenever I become a
teacher is her ability to intervene when something goes wrong, for instance, a student comes in late or there is
commotion in the class. For example, when a student comes late, she does not simply hush it down – she takes
the student separately, talks to him/her, and lets the student know that there is a consequence for being late
while at the same time comforting them. As a result, this approach does two things, namely addressing the
behavior while affirming the appropriate manner in which one is treated in a classroom.
In case of any academic or disciplinary issue, my Resource Teacher is always composed of him/herself. While she
patiently hears both the presenter’s side of the story and the rest of the students’ opinions, she guides the
students to come up with a consensus. This approach ensures that students are comfortable, and everyone gets
to express themselves. I like how she manages such situations and would like to learn more about how to address
such issues so that the classroom environment can be friendly and productive.
