CONDITIONALS.

Conditional clause + result clause.

ZERO CONDITIONAL.

If + subject + present simple,

Subject + present simple.

· Verdades universales. Hechos que siempre ocurren cuando se da una


condición.

“If you don´t wash your socks, they smell bad”

Conditional clause  Present simple.

Result clause  Present simple.

*We can start the sentence with WHEN…  “When you don´t wash your
socks, they smell bad”.

** Podemos invertir la frase (result + condituonal)  en estos casos NO HAY


COMA.

“Your socks smell bad when/if you don´t wash them”.

· Instrucciones u órdenes: “If your mother calls, tell her I want to speak to her.”

FIRST CONDITIONAL.

If + subject + present simple,

Subject + will/ won´t + infinitive.

· Situaciones probables. Reales en el futuro.

“If you don´t clean the house, you´ll sleep on the sofa”.

Conditional clause  Present simple.

*Siempre que podamos, intentamos usar las contracciones:

“If I sleep on the sofa, I won´t sleep well.”

SECOND CONDITIONAL.

If + subject + past simple

Subject `would/ wouldn´t + infinitive.

· Future. Es una condición hipotética poco probable que ocurra.

“If I won the lottery, I´d move to Japan”

Conditional clause  Past simple.

Result clause  Would.

· Present. Situaciones presentes que no se pueden dar porque son imposibles.

“If he were taller, I´d wear high heels”.

**were. Subjuntivo. Lo usamos para todas las personas del plural y del
singular.

· Consejos. “If I were you, I´d travel to England more often”.

THIRD CONDITIONAL.

If + subject + past perfect

Subject + would have + past participle.

· Past. Situación imaginaria en el pasado. (para regañar)

“If you hadn´t been looking at your phone, you wouldn´t have burnt my toast”.

Conditional clause  Past perfect.

Result clause  would + have + past participle.

(Arrepentimiento) “If I hadn´t left you in charge of breakfast, you wouldn´t


have burnt my toast.”

“If I had remembered to put the lid on the toothpaste, if wouldn´t have got
dry”.

correct conditional.

iba a estar allí.
e) Cuando calientas el agua a 100 grados, hierve.
f) Si hablara inglés fluidamente, no estaría aquí.
g) Si haces eso otra vez, se lo diré a tu madre.
h) Si te ducharas todos los días, olerías mejor.
i) Si no me ayudas a limpiar la casa, no te ayudaré con
tus deberes.
j) ¿Que harías si vieras a alguien ahogándose en el mar?
k) Si digo que sí, ¿dónde me llevarás en nuestra
luna de miel?
l) Si hubiera sabido que era un criminal, no me habría
casado con él.
m) Sería tan feliz si tú fueras mi mujer.
n) Si tú fueras mi marido, bebería veneno.
o) Si te veo aquí otra vez, llamaré a la policía
inmediatamente.

3. Are these sentences zero, first or second


conditional.

a) If you don’t eat healthy you will not be fine.

c) I feel good when I practice English.
d) I’ll be fine if my economy is good.
e) If I were a man, I would wear colourful ties.
f) If you don’t study English, you can’t speak English.

the sofa.

i) If you don’t put suncream, you burn yourself.
j) If I sleep for 8 hours, I feel fresh.
k) If he were his father, I wouldn’t allow such
behaviour.
l) If you come late, don’t make noise.
m) If she calls again, tell her I am busy.
