Lesson Plan: “Societal Multilingualism”

Lesson focus: Multilingualism causes and other aspects.

Student’s age: 20-22

Level: 4th year of English career.

Previous knowledge: Styles, Gender and Social Class.

Length of lesson: 40’

Teacher: Luca

Aims:

 Learn the principal causes that produced Multilingualism.


 Learn the different social aspects and problems concerning the Multilingualism.

Subsidiary aims:

 Vocabulary: To learn vocabulary related to sociolinguistics.


 Skills: writing, reading.

Method: Inductive/Deductive.

Vocabulary technique: Visuals.

Warming-up

To start with, teacher ask questions to students about the previous chapter of the book:
“Sociolinguistics by Bernard Spolsky” in order to relate it with the one that comes next.
After few questions and relations with the following chapter, teacher presents the new
theme: “Societal Multilingualism”.

Presentation

Teacher presents the topic of the lesson through a conceptual scheme along with an
explanation and complementary information. Students takes notes about the
presentation and the information that they listen.

Practice

Teacher presents an investigation activity that consist of students to search a minimum


of 2 examples about Pidgins and Creoles societies/communities in the actual times.
Production

Teacher presents an activity using the technological devices of the students. Through
an app called “Kahoot”, teacher produces different quizzes and true or false activities
related to the whole explanation of the topic. The student that most points achieve wins
the game.
