6 Delay Fault Testing Tutorial

This document discusses different types of delay faults including transition delay faults and path delay faults. It covers robust path delay tests, which detect path delays even if other paths speeds change, and non-robust path delay tests. It also discusses different delay fault testing techniques such as broadside/launch-off-capture and skewed-load/launch-off-shift testing. Timing diagrams are provided for these techniques. An exercise is included to identify robustly, non-robustly, and non-testable path delays in an implementation of an XOR gate. Additional topics covered include segment tests and the use of a launch clock, capture clock, and scan enable signals in delay fault testing.

Exercise
Consider the 4-Nand implementation of the
XOR gate in the previous slide. There are
six I/O paths hence 12 path delay faults. For
each of these faults, determine if it is
robustly testable, only non-robustly testable
or not testable (functionally redundant).
Provide justification for your answers.

Broadside is also called launch-off-capture test.
Skewed-Load is also called launch-off-shift test.
