Jang-e-Azadi Memorial is a memorial and museum being built
in Kartarpur of Punjab, India, in memory of contribution and
sacrifices made by the Punjabi community in Indian
independence movement.
The memorial will be built over an area of 25 acres at the cost
of Rs 200 crore. Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal laid
the foundation stone of the Jang-e-Azadi memorial The project
is designed by architect Raj Rewal.
The design layout of the memorial, conceptualised and
designed by him has been approved by the Government.
As per the proposed design various galleries will be
constructed to project the different movements of freedom
struggle.
In addition to it, an auditorium, movie hall, open-air theatre,
amphitheater, library, research and seminar halls etc. is also
constructed as an integral part of the memorial galleries
The Zang-e-Azadi Memorial comprises number of well-
equipped galleries to portray various movements of the
freedom struggle.The other components include a 45-metre-
high tower known as 'Shaheed-e-Minar', a 1000-seat open-air-
theatre, a 150-seat movie hall, a 300-seat auditorium, library
besides research and seminar halls.
ACCESSIBLITY- The site, which falls on the Jalandhar-
Amritsar National Highway, has been carefully selected by the
government, keeping in mind its easy accessibility to visitors and
another attraction for the tourists visiting the Golden Temple

CONCEPT- The concept of the Jang-e-Azadi Memorial and Museum
is based on a circular enclosure which houses the focal centre of the
memorial and integrates it with a harmonious ensemble of galleries
amplifying the struggle and sacrifice for freedom around a ceremonial
path.
The components like auditorium, library and restaurant have been
conceived as autonomous units so as to function independently. ]
AIM- The aim was to design a lively museum which involves not only
the surrounding community but also an important place for tourists
The memorial is aimed at disseminating knowledge of rich cultural
heritage of Punjab among youngsters.
DESIGN
The iconic memorial will house statues of about 10 martyrs in the
middle. It will have a huge atrium with spacious galleries equipped
with LEDs.
Outside, there will be six smaller foliage-like structures, housing a
150-seat movie hall, 300- seat auditorium, temporary exhibition
gallery, library, 500-seat amphitheater and a 1000- seat open-air
theatre.
Another attraction will be the 45.5-m-high Shahid-e-Minar at the
entrance of the memorial
The main iconic memorial of the building is in the shape of foliage
will be 43.08 m in height. The four leaves coming up in a cluster will
be raised using Kota marble.
This entire project costs $3 bn.

The entrance foyer contains murals depicting
eminent personalities of the freedom struggle and a
model of the memorial for an overview of the
project.
The murals also showcase the timeline of key events
in the freedom struggle.
This is followed by a minaret holding the sacred and
immortal flame of the martyrs of freedom
movement.
A 15-minute animated movie with 3D projection
technique in the galleries depicts the contributions of
Punjab during the country's independence struggle.
The memorial icon, in the form of four petals taking
inspiration from the 'phulkari' textile pattern of
Punjab, honours the sacrifices of the freedom
fighters.
