Types of pumps
Balanced vane pump
Types of pumps
Two stage pump
Types of pumps
Piston pumps- piston pumps are either radial or
axial.
Types of pumps
Radial piston pump
Types of pumps
Axial piston pumps
Pump operation
Overloading
Creates excess torque on a drive shaft
It requires larger pump to prevent overloading
Excess speed
Running a pump at too high a speed causes loss of lubrication, which
can cause early failure
Higher displacement pumps are needed if delivery requires a higher
drive speed than a pump’s rating.
Cavitation
It occurs where available fluid does not fill existing space.
It results to eroding of metal in the inlet and quicker oil deterioration
Keeping the inlet clean and free of obstructions will prevent
cavitation.
Pump operation
Operating problems
Pressure loss
There is a high leakage path in the system
Slow operation
Caused by worn pump or slight leakage in the system
No delivery
Caused by pump irregularities
Noise
Caused by restriction in an inlet line
Dirty inlet filter
High drive speed
Air in a system
No oil in a pump before starting
Loose connection in inlet
Leaking shaft seal
