Oral communication involves sharing messages between people through various channels. It occurs between two or more people through words or other expressions. There are different levels of communication, including intrapersonal, interpersonal, public, mass, technology-based, organizational, and intercultural. Communication is a systematic process that involves encoders, decoders, messages, channels, and feedback between communicators. However, effective communication does not guarantee that conflicts will be resolved.

What is Communication?
• Communication is a process of sharing and conveying
messages or information from one person to another within
and across channels, context, media and cultures.
Nature of Communication
•Occurs between two or more people.
•Communication is a process
•Can be expressed through words.
Levels of Communications
•Intrapersonal Communication- Communication within
yourself( thinking, remembering and feeling.

•Interpersonal – Communication among relatively


small number of people.

•Public/Audience Communication- Involves speaking


with the audience..

•Mass Communication- Communication with the use of
mass media.

•Communication Technology- Communication through


the use of technology

•Organizational Communication- Communication within


the workplace between and among members in
order to carry out an organization’s objectives.

•Intercultural Communication-
communication between and
among cultural communities and
nations to promote understanding
and goodwill.
Communication involves
communicators, not just a
speaker and a listener.
Communication is irreversible

Once utterance has left someone’s mouth,


the consequences of that statement being
uttered has already left an impression on
the listeners.
COMMUNICATION is
SYSTEMATIC
It is an organization of an interdependent elements or
component parts that form a complex whole and achieve a
certain purpose.

The family is an example of a system that influences an


individual’s pattern of communication.
Communication is PROACTIVE
When people receive information, they
actively evaluate the content and the
purpose of the message and credibility of
the speaker, even when they seem to be
listening passively.
Communication is SYMBOLIC
Symbols are representation used to communicate and
interpret one’s thought and feelings.

Words, picture, gesture and another thing that maybe used


to signify or represent another thing is considered a
symbol.
Meaning in communication is
individually constructed
Individual involvement in communication play a
significant role in meaning construction, which
means that they actively create meaning taken
from the experiences or phenomena through
symbolic representation.
Communication occurs even without
complete understanding
It DOESN’T require serious intention
to transfer information on the part of
communication.
Communication is not
simple.
Communication doesn’t always solve
conflicts
Communication is only a tool for
expression and depending on how the
communicators use this tool. It
maybe bring, positive or negative
result.
Elements of Communication

•SPEAKER- The Source of information or


message.

•Message- the information, ideas, or thoughts


conveyed by the speaker in words or in action.
Elements of Communication
•ENCODING- The process of converting of a message into words, actions or
other forms that the speaker understands.

•CHANNEL- the medium or the means, such as personal or non personal,


verbal or non-verbal in which the encoded message is conveyed.

•DECODING- The process of interpreting the encoded messageof the speaker


by the sender.
Elements of Communication
•ENCODING- The process of converting of a message into words, actions or
other forms that the speaker understands.

•CHANNEL- the medium or the means, such as personal or non personal,


verbal or non-verbal in which the encoded message is conveyed.

•DECODING- The process of interpreting the encoded messageof the speaker


by the sender.
Elements of Communication
•RECEIVER- the recipient of the message or someone who decodes the
message.

•FEEDBACK- the reaction responses or information provided by the receiver.

•CONTEXT- environment where communication takes place.

•BARRIER- the factors that affects the flow of the communications.
