QUARTER 3 WEEK 3
Review:
True or False. Write TRUE if the
statement is correct and FALSE if
not.
__________ 1. Aluminum is a good
conductor of heat and electricity.
__________ 2. All materials can be
good conductors of heat and
electricity.
__________ 3. Metal pots allow the
heat flow thoroughly.
__________ 4. Iron-based metals
are insulators of heat and
electricity.
__________ 5. Electricity plays an
important role in our daily
activities.
Observe the following pictures:

A rainbow appears
in the sky as a result
of the reflection
and refraction of
white light from
the sun as it shines
through the water
What is in the picture? droplets in the
atmosphere
Where does light
come from?
Visible Light
A light that is visible to
human eye

Sun Primary source of

visible light.
The Visible
light allows
us to see the
color that is
not absorbed
by the
objects.
Optics
• Is the study of the refraction,
reflection, absorption, and
transmission of light.
Refraction
Refers to the
bending of light as it
passes through
different materials.
The pencil in a glass appears
bent because of the different parts
of the material that interact with
light. The part of the pencil that is
not dipped in water interacts with
the air while the part of the pencil
dipped in water interacts with the
water.
Remember: Light moves faster in air than in
water. This is why the pencil looks bent.
REFLECTION
Refers to the bouncing back of light
when it hits on an object. Some objects with
flat surface, like mirrors, reflect light in a
straight, predictable way. Some objects with
uneven surfaces, like rocks, reflect light in a
scattered way.
Absorption
Refers to a material’s taking in of
light and not reflecting it back. For
example, when light strikes a black
surface, it is absorbed by the surface
and nothing is reflected.
Different materials have different
ways of transmitting light

Transparent
Allows light
to pass
through
Different materials have different
ways of transmitting light
Translucent
Allows
some light
to pass
through.
Different materials have different
ways of transmitting light
Opaque
Will not allow
light to pass
through.
Directions: Identify whether it is Transparent,
Translucent or Opaque. Write your answer on
the board.
Cite examples
of objects that
transmit, block
and reflect light.
What are the different
ways on how lights interact
with other materials?
From the box below, write what is being
described in each item in the space provided.

QUARTER 3 WEEK 3
Review:
Directions: Identify whether it is Transparent,
Translucent or Opaque. Write your answer on
the board.
Look at the object below;

Does the object transmit light?

What do you the object that do

not allow light to pass through?
Have you experienced
looking at yourself in
front of a mirror?

What did you observe?

Activity: “Bouncing Back”

What you need:

mirror and flashlight

What to do:
1. Stand in front of the mirror. Turn
the flashlight ON and direct it to the
mirror.
2. Observe what
happens to the
flashlight’s beam.
3. Pick a spot. Make
the light bounce off
the mirror and shine
on that spot (ex. a wall
or any surface) like in
the illustration below.
Guide Questions:
Directions: Answer the following
questions. Write your answers in
your science notebook.
1. How were you able to light up
the spot? Do you have to move
the mirror, the flashlight, or
both?
2. What happened to the
beam of light when it hit
the mirror?

3. What did you observe

when you moved the
mirror?
How light
helps us in
our daily
living?
What have
you learned?
Directions: Read, understand,
and complete the sentences
below. Choose your answer
from the words inside the box
that described in each item.

REVIEW:
Observe the materials below;
Did the light pass
through the
material? Can you
see the object at the
back of the material?
Activity; “Closely Related”

What to do:
Study the diagrams below.
Guide Questions

Directions: Using the Venn diagrams

below, compare and contrast the
following interactions. Choose the
correct terms from the box for your
answer for each item. Copy and
complete the diagrams on a separate
paper.
Types, descriptions, and uses of
materials based on how they
interact with light.
Classify the following materials that are
transparent, translucent, and opaque by putting a
check mark.
Identify if it is Transparent, Translucent or Opaque.

REVIEW:
Directions: Read, understand, and
complete the sentences below.
Choose your answer from the
words inside the box that
described in each item.
What are the different
ways on how lights interact
with other materials?
When the light hits different
materials, the light behaves
differently. It depends on
whether the material is
transparent, translucent, or
opaque. It serves as the
foundation for how materials are
used in our daily lives.
Activity: “Going Through”

What you need:

 a glass of water (3/4 full)
 crayons
 white bond paper
 pencil
What to do:
1. Take the glass of water and white
bond paper to a part of the room with
enough sunlight (near a window is
good).
2. Hold the glass of water above the
paper and let sunlight pass through
it, bend, and form a rainbow of colors
on the bond paper.
3. Try holding the glass of
water at different heights
and angles to see if it has a
different effect.
4. Draw your observation
on the paper and put colors
based on what you see.
Guide Questions:
Directions: Based on the result of the
activity conducted, answer the
questions below. Write your answers
on a separate sheet of paper.
1. What did you see on the paper
when sunlight passed through the
glass of water?
2. What do you think caused the
sunlight to refract or bend?
3. What was the effect when the
glass was held at different heights
and angles?
4. The activity showed refraction of
light. In your own words, what is
the refraction of light?
Can light pass
through a block of
wood?

Why?
What have you learned
from our lesson?
