The Los Angeles City Council adopted an array of measures Tuesday aimed at jump-starting recovery efforts for residents whose lives have been upended by devastating wildfires.

On Jan. 13, with their lives upended and their immediate future uncertain, Miller, who, like her husband, works on Skid Row for the County Department of Health Services, was back at work.

But those whose lives have been upended by the fires can attest to the truth of what Shakespeare is describing.

The fires have already upended much of Hollywood’s awards calendar, at least in the short term.
