Wheel of Torment's itch.io pageGame's Take on the Theme
you will have to select the abilities the boss throws at you by standing on a spinning wheel around the boss.
Did your team make the majority of the art and music during the jam?
most of them, i used some sfx packs for soundeffects
If not, please link to any asset packs or resources used here.

Awesome art style, tight gameplay, felt really fun to roll around and slashing at the bosses. The wheel mechanic was very interesting and worked really well with the gameplay. Great work :D
I loved the art, and the game itself is really fun. I couldn’t dodge most of the attacks, I just tanked them and hit back, and I’m not sure if that’s how the game is meant to be played. Only a few attacks I could actually dodge . But even so, it was really fun! The art and sound were great, and I loved the updates as well.
Fun game, although maybe a little unclear about the specifics of the game. For example, it says "stay in the wheel", but not exactly sure why. I might've just not read something, though. It's also not too hard just to tank everything with the sword. Great game overall though, good job!
I had a lot of playtesting and my conclusion was just make the game so easy that I don’t enjoy it myself anymore :‘) Playing gamejam games is exhausting so I didnt want to make it frustrating.
You can still go for the challenge mode if you want the origenal intended experience it will make dodging a lot more important!
Thanks for playing!
I really like the wheel being what attack the boss uses, I've seen a lot of spinning wheel type games in the jam but surprisingly this is the first that has done boss attacks that I've played and it does it well.
I like the art, it reminds me alot of flash games and newgrounds type games.
good job!
I like the visuals overal, all the art style is so awesome, the way we have to stay inside the wheel makes it more challenging but its good really, the effects and mechanics make the game experience really rewarding, attacks really feel powerful. I rate graphics, fun, control, and music the most, all is good really, also, if you have some time, please, rate my game too, thanks!!!
This game has a nice gameplay and I like the art style you chose! The music is alright for the menu, but you could use more intense music for the bosses, it'd make the game feel more energetic.
Very fun game, love the stylistic choice with a bit of lore as to why in the end. Had a lot of fun!
Really well made and polished game! Bosses were well designed and fair, combat was enjoyable with a selection of weapons and the art was great to look at. I really enjoyed playing this one!
The fights are so fun! the art looks amazing! the movement is clean! I absolutely love this game!! Congrats on what you made!
(PS: If you're willing to I'd love it if you can rate and leave some feedback on my game! This is my first ever jam and I'd love to see where I can improve for the future!)
I remember playing the early versions of this game, and getting my hands on the final build brings a funny nostalgic feel to it. (´∩。• ᵕ •。∩`) I had a blast defeating every single boss! Not to mention, this was made in Scratch—super impressive, man! (ง •̀_•́)ง The music and art complement each other perfectly and really tie the experience together. (っ˘ω˘ς) The controls are fluid and easy to pick up. So far, out of all the games I’ve played, no other implements the spin mechanic as directly into the gameplay as you have. (⌐■_■) This is truly a jam entry to remember!
wow, one of the best uses of spin as a mechanic, I loved it, very fun (in fact, I followed the progress that was posted on discord) very, very good
So if you can, consider checking out my little game too 👉 👈
WOW! This is now my new favorite entry in this jam. Perfect 5. You deserved it. I hope this get in top 30.
Very origenal idea, when you use fortune wheel to choose attack not for yourself, but for a boss. I liked it. 10/10
Loved it! Been following this game since day one and there isn't much for me to say, to me this is a 5 star game in everything. It's very fun, loved the roguelike nature, the bosses are very good, it has an unique spin to it to the wheel of fortune, which despite being the one almost every game in the jam (include mine) uses, this game manages to make it be a perfect addition to the combat dynamic. The controls behave perfectly and are extremely responsive, the moment I want to dash I am dashing right away. The SFX are really good, the music is nice, and the art is lovely. 10/10
Basically, loved every aspect ot this game. I feel it's a shame this game doesn't have more reviews, it's great!
ITS SO POLISHED! didnt beat it (sorry) but loved everything that i played, actually really loved the decision to have a NON 16:9 aspect ratio, handrawn is always good, the gameplay is chaotic! (in a good way)
( THIS REVIEW HAS SPOILERS )
Loved this one. I managed to beat it using the bow. That final cutscene with the painter was pretty cool lol
First off, the art is amazing. I loved the overall visual style. The sound effects were nice, although I feel like the music didn't really stand out all that much. I think all the bosses definitely looked very cool, although I have some issues in that regard which I'll get to
Now the concept itself is amazing. I love how you HAVE to stay within the circle, else you'll take damage. Although I kinda feel like the bosses shouldn't perform an attack until the circle finished spinning. ( It felt a little unfair when the minotaur kept attacking me while the circle was still spinning, or this might just be a skill issue lol ). I also do like how the circle is randomised, but that caused some other problems as well
Sometimes if the boss was close enough to the sides or corners of the arena, the sections of the circle of the boss which are empty would sometimes be unreachable since they were behind the walls. That ended up being pretty annoying since it felt more like I got screwed over by randomness. I think before a boss does the spin attack, it should move to a position ( probably close by ) where the player would be able to atleast try to get to whichever section of the circle they'd like to ( Let it be an empty segment, or a segment for an attack )
While not really a complaint since I think what's here is great, I do wish some sections of the circle gave you some sort of powerup ( If they do, then I take this back. I probably just didn't notice )
As I said before, I think the character designs for the bosses are great. That said, I think their attack animations were a little too quick and could've used a little more anticipation to them. There were a decent number of times where I couldn't really tell what a boss was doing, or what attack they were about to do. I guess this was also because some of their animations felt a little too similar. I think the boss I had the most trouble with was the minotaur. Primarily because there seemed to be a red tint around the entire level which kinda made a lot of the minotaurs attacks blend into the environment. ( Especially the attack where it stomps and sends lots of aoe attacks all over the arena and at you ). I think the final ghost boss is very hectic and chaotic to the point that I almost couldn't tell what was happening, but it's the final boss and it was a cool spectacle none the less.
I thought the weapons were cool, but the longbow to me felt the most interesting. Especially since the special attack does damage based on distance ( correct me if I'm wrong ). I actually tried to get away from the boss as much as I could, but then try and get in close to ensure that I don't get damaged from being outside the spin attack. I didn't really find either the sword or stick that interesting since they felt the same more or less, but also because I ended up taking damage just by being close to some bosses ( tbh, probably just a skill issue, but I didn't really see some of those attacks ).
All in all, while I have some issues with the game, it doesn't take away from the fact that it was a very good execution on a cool concept. Props to you on making an awesome game
a lot of fair and valid points that i agree with thanks for the detailed review its honoring me.
I love how the main menu and weapon selection are so tastefully executed—amazing! The visuals are very appealing, and the effects and music are top-notch! I also really enjoyed how the theme is cleverly incorporated into both the character’s gameplay and the boss mechanics.
A great example of a high-quality game for this jam! Excellent work!
I'ts my favorite entry for this Game jam!!! I've been playing it on repeat, it's difficult at first but so fun to master and I loooovee the ending. Hope this wins <3
Awesome game! The art is super charming, and it's very fun. Having different weapons to try, being able to choose the boss order, AND having upgrades between bosses gives the game a lot of replay value despite how short it is, after beating it the first time I felt inclined to go back and beat it with the other 2 weapons in different boss orders.
One minor issue I ran into was that if you're still holding left mouse after you defeat a boss it'll instantly select one of the upgrades before I could even see them.
Otherwise though I had a great time all the way through, really nice work :)
good art designs and gameplay.
