Chemical engineering research takes place within a highly collaborative cross-disciplinary research atmosphere. The Colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, Arts & Sciences and Agriculture, Food and Environment are within a 10-minute walk of the College of Engineering. Our faculty members also conduct research with the Center for Applied Energy Research, a nationally recognized leader in renewable energy solutions, as well as the Center of Membrane Sciences, UK Superfund Research Center, Center for Pharmaceutical Research and Innovation and the Center for Clinical and Translational Science.

Ifrah Hammad, chemical engineering senior, was named Best Soundbite winner at the national award symposium for undergraduate researchers.
Alex Mayes, 2021 chemical engineering graduate, is one of many UK students to receive the Distilling, Wine and Brewing Studies Certificate (DWB) from University of Kentucky James B. Beam Institute for Kentucky Spirits (JBBI). He has been a process engineer at Jim Beam for more than three years now.
Established in 2024, the Lighthouse Beacon Foundation Endowment supports faculty, research, graduate students, facilities and research infrastructure in the Pigman College of Engineering. In its inaugural year, the endowment has made $160,000 in funds available for distribution, with a priority on faculty and research scholar support.
David Lu, completed his summer internship at the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Environmental Management (EM) headquarters in Washington, D.C. in August. Lu was able to arrange a tour of a cleanup site near his hometown in Western Kentucky.
This fall, the University of Kentucky Pigman College of Engineering welcomed 10 new faculty members.
