Laurie House Uses AirBNB to Adapt to Covid Crisis

When the pandemic hit, few industries were impacted as substantially as the hotel/conference center industry. For the Aramark team at the Laurie House in Princeton, NJ, this meant closing down operations entirely – that is, until ______ came up with an idea on how to adapt, reopen, and thrive in the new normal.
The Laurie House is a restored 18th Century farmhouse with seven private guest rooms located on the Chauncey Conference Center grounds. When the pandemic hit, the Aramark team at the Laurie House closed down everything. While the hotel/conference center industry was suffering, it was Airbnb that seemed to be surviving through the challenging situation. Across the country – and the world - people changed their habits to prefer staying in private homes versus hotels. Once they realized this, it sparked the idea to turn the Laurie House into an Airbnb.
“I presented the concept to the client and they approved the new initiative. Within a week of posting, we had our first booking, and by the second week of December, we were sold out until May 15th, 2021.”

General Manager, Chauncey Hotel & Conference CenterToday, the Laurie House currently has 5-star reviews from Airbnb guests and they all hope to return in the future. While this business is different from Aramark’s “normal” conference center business, the hospitality is the same. Through being creative, they were able to provide their client (Chauncey Hotel & Conference Center) with revenue to help mitigate the expenses that continue to occur while they are closed.

An Update About Our COVID-19 Response

One of Aramark’s defining values is the Company’s selfless passion for serving others. Never has this passion been more evident than it is today. Our team members are heroes working among heroes, helping us get past the acute phase of this current crisis. It is heartbreaking to witness the impact on people and communities around the world, on our customers and most especially, on our employees and their families. In order to safeguard our employees and position the Company for long-term, future success, I have had to make some incredibly hard, near-term decisions that will enable us to protect the maximum number of jobs and allow our valued team members to return to Aramark as quickly as possible.
