Although it varies from season to season, we offer a variety of activities for our employees: movie nights, card games, ping pong tournaments, ice cream socials, sushi nights, canoe races, and even sushi nights! We also celebrate major holidays together, like the 4th of July, Christmoose (Christmas in July), and Labor Day.

Rock Harbor Lodge has a recreation hall reserved for the use of employees only. Here, you’ll find a TV room, DVD player, computer room, books, and other recreational games for entertainment.

We believe in making the most of your time while you’re here! Rock Harbor Lodge offers employees countless recreational opportunities, like hiking, camping, stargazing, motor-boating, berry picking, and more. All sightseeing, water taxies, and kayak/canoe rentals are free of charge and camping and fishing gear is available to borrow.

Our operations on the east and west ends of the island both have small general stores. 

There is no cell service on the island. You may occasionally get service, but it is not reliable or consistent. 

Wi-fi is available in the employee dorm and recreation hall. Our wi-fi connection is only meant for web browsing and cannot support high quantities of streaming.

We require all of our team members to maintain a professional appearance, including the practice of good hygiene. A uniform work shirt and name tag is provided. Employees will be responsible for their own work pants and shoes. 

Employees are enrolled in a room and board plan for a minimal daily cost that will be deducted from their paycheck. All employees live in company provided dormitory housing or guesthouses and should expect to have a roommate. Rooms come furnished with a twin bed, dressers, chairs, and desk, and unless otherwise noted, all company housing will have a shared bathroom with suite mates. We provide all linens for employees, including towels, sheets, blankets, and toilet paper.

The Employee Dining Room is located very close to our employee housing and offers three hot meals per day, plus snacks in-between meal times. Out kitchen provides a variety of different cuisines with limited options for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets.

Located in the center of Lake Superior, Isle Royale is only accessible by seaplane or boat. Ranger III, Isle Royale Queen IV, and Isle Royale Seaplanes depart from Michigan. Voyageur II, Sea Hunter, and Isle Royale Seaplanes depart from Minnesota. Rock Harbor and Windigo are the two main entry points to Isle Royale. 

Your first step will be arriving to Houghton, MI, by either flying (United) into Houghton County Memorial Airport (CMX) or by taking a Greyhound bus. If you are arriving by plane, we will arrange an airport pick-up with our mainland agent.

We recommend our employees take the Ranger III with a discounted fare. The Ranger III departs from Houghton on Tuesday and Friday mornings and is a six-hour ferry ride to the park.
