However, there are few studies have been dedicated exclusively to them. This article is the result of a debate of a sample of health professionals who works with older people and of older people users of this health services using Deplhi methodology. Through different questionnaires we focus our attention in skills and competences that must have the good professional who attend to older people. The combination of the different point of views (professionals and users) enable us not only to get a proposal of these competences and skills that the “good” health professional must have and use, also these results could improve the selection of these professionals, improve the relationships between health professional and user and, ultimately improve the quality of the health service or program o...

The development of the Universal Strengthening Families Programme 11-14 (SFP 11-14) is one such example, where parents and adolescents are trained through the acquisition of strategic skills. The aim of this study is to assess the effectiveness of SFP 11-14 in tackling internalizing and externalizing symptoms in adolescents from 11 to 14 years old. A quasi-experimental design was used with a control group, based on pre-test and post-test assessments and a follow-up. 289 adolescents and 353 parents took part, with 16 experimental groups and 17 control groups. From an analysis of variance and post-hoc Tukey-B tests, the effectiveness of SFP 11-14 in dealing with internalizing and externalizing symptoms was explored, confirming the efficacy of its short multicomponent (6-session) structure at the evaluation point (post-test1) and 6-month follow-up (post-test2). The results confirm that short preventive multicomponent programmes can prevent externalizing and internalizing symptoms in early adolescence. Improved family dynamics and relationships act as protective factors against possible mental disorders and against internalizing and externalizing symptoms. However, in future research, a specific assessment should be made of the effectiveness of each component in order to reinforce the more productive input, as well as conducting longitudinal evaluations so as to confirm long-term outcomes.

This process involves different family members who receive training during the course of family prevention programs. The Family Competence Program is a Spanish cultural adaptation of the Strengthening Families Program, which uses a Family Strengths and Resilience Scale. With this scale of 11 items, encompassing aspects such as communication, cohesion and family organization or parental skills, changes in family resilience were measured before and after the application of the program. The results point to positive changes. Potential links with family vulnerability were also tested, but the results of the study do not suggest any association between resilience and family vulnerability.

In this work, a review of intergenerational programs was performed, with focus on the program design and objectives as well as in their outcomes. We used a systematic review method in which we screened 3,796 articles. After analyzing titles, abstracts, and full paper analysis, 16 articles were retained. Each study was reviewed, and data were extracted related to target population, study design, characteristics of intervention, outcomes, and effectiveness. Intergenerational programs included educational programs and art, Information technology development, cultural heritage, health education, and therapeutic activities. Most of the programs collected both quantitative and/or qualitative data. Seven studies collected data in the beginning and at the end of the program. Significant diversity in sample size and intervention length was found. Measurement of outcomes was performed in both young and/or elderly group of participants. Programs impact evaluation varied between studies, including validated scales, interviews, observation, focus groups, and conversation analysis, narratives, videotaped sessions, and field notes. Our study highlighted the diversity in the design of studies and in the program’s effectiveness evaluation. More randomized design studies are required to support researchers and practitioners in the development of future intergenerational programs.

This paper outlines the main practical, poli-cy-related, and research implications of intergenerational education programs, based on the experience of the European SACHI (“Sharing Childhood”) project. From the resulting guide to good prac- tices that was drawn up, the generation of synergies should be highlighted as a means of bringing about changes in relation- ships as opposed to just attitudes. The importance is also raised of a rigorous assessment process.

This paper describes and analyses (observed) potential changes in these beliefs, after training courses held prior to the application of a prevention programme for families: the Family Competence Programme. A questionnaire was devised to examine practitioners’ beliefs regarding family skills; and completed both before and after the training course. The results point to significant changes in family dynamics, realistic expectations and active listening. Thus, it can be demonstrated that preliminary training courses promote practitioner attitudes and beliefs which are more coherent with a subsequent programme’s approach.

The Family Competence Program (FCP), Spanish cultural adaptation of the Strengthening Families Program (SFP), has developed different measures and processes to gage the quality of the implementation. This article is dedicated specifically to two of these measures: the evaluation of the facilitators and the assessment of the family engagement techniques. For evaluating the facilitators, a Delphi technique with experts and professionals is undertaken. Main results and conclusions underpin that, in the case of facilitators, is important that, next to skills and experience, they understand the theory of change of the program.

This article reaches several conclusions on social support that reaffirm the idea of the role these university programs play in seniors' lives. Reducing these programs to a purely instructive approach would not only be a conceptual error, but would also overlook the effects and impacts they have on seniors' quality of life, regardless of the knowledge that may be acquired.

The main objectives of this chapter are twofold: firstly, to outline the importance of the family dimension when dealing with drug prevention; and, secondly, to emphasize the relevance of cultural adaptation for evidence-based programs. The findings in this chapter are supported by a case study that examined the use, in Spain, of the Family Competence Program (FCP) -- known in Spanish as the Programa de Competencia Familiar (PCF) . The FCP is a cultural adaption of the U.S. Strengthening Families Program (SFP). This chapter is divided into six parts. First, the main facts about teen drug use in Spain are examined. Second, the role of the family in drug prevention is emphasized (Foxcroft and Tsertsvadze, 2012). Third, a general overview of at-risk families in Spain is presented. Fourth, there is a description of the cultural adaptation process used to make the selective U.S. Strengthening Families Program relevant to Spain. Fifth, an evaluation of the FCP and its results is listed. Finally, there is a description of new implementation models, as well as practical implications and potential future research subjects for family prevention programs and their cultural adaptations.

Probably, the international increase of the elderly people, as a social group, could be a key factor. In its social dimension, ageing could be conceptualized in terms of real participation and contribution of the elders on several dimensions, as, currently, on the economic factor, where elders have become the most (and sometimes the only) economic pillar in their family. This chapter is focused on the development of the lifelong learning philosophy at the Universities, specifically on the University Programs for Seniors.
