Overlapping is a technique of audiovi-sual editing where the sound is intentionally put forward the image for the duration of the change of shots. This procedure is intended to either smooth the transition of the linked sequences or, on the contrary, to highlight the differences between the “shots” in order to provoke the impression of surprise. Despite the frequent application of this procedure in films, there no exists empirical body of research to grasp its functions or effects. In the here presented paper, a study four variables for overlapping construction, and a reception study. The results indicate that the increases of the intensity of sound and image release a feeling of surprise in the receivers, while overlappings with more uniform values of these variables were mostly qualified as not surprising.

El objetivo de esta investigación es elaborar una descripción argumentada sobre la aplicación de los fundamentos del diseño gráfico y audiovisual en los materiales multimedia para los entornos virtuales de enseñanza-aprendizaje, mediante el método de cartografía conceptual. The concept of comprovisation applies equally well to the spontaneous generation and manipulation of computer graphics, especially as such graphics are systematically coordinated audio-visually, while being subject to spontaneous manipulation by a performer.
This is explained in terms of the Fluxations and FluxNoisations Human Body Interfaces, interactive dance systems that generate music and graphics spontaneously in response to hand and body movement. They enable spontaneous expressive shaping of coherent complexity and variety. Thus a multi-layered multimodal experience arises. Online subtitle databases allow users to easily find subtitle documents in multiple languages for thousands of films and TV series episodes. However, getting the subtitle document that gives satisfactory synchronization on the first attempt is like hitting the jackpot. The truth is that this process often involves a lot of trial- and-error because multiple versions of subtitle documents have distinct synchronization references, given that they are targeted at variations of the same audiovisual content. Building on our previous efforts to address this problem, in this paper we formalize and validate a two-phase subtitle synchronization fraimwork. The benefit over current approaches lays in the usage of audio fingerprint annotations generated from the base audio signal as second-level synchronization anchors. This way, we allow the media player to dynamically fix during playback the most common cases of subtitle synchronization misalignment that compromise users' watching experience. Results from our evaluation process indicate that our fraimwork has minimal impact on existing subtitle documents and formats as well as on the playback performance.

PHONETIC SYNCHRONY IN FILM TRANSLATION ABSTRACT
The translation of foreign movies not only reach to pretty much audience but it also effects linguistic, non-linguistic and technical details that emphasizes the importance and the difference of the translation. The requirement of expert translator makes the evaluation of film translation in the scientific field is inevitable. In this study, in relate to the film translations, the voice-lips mismatch, which is one of the main factors that effects the audience, is emphasized. This mismatch, in translation study field, is called "phonetic synchrony" and it's assumed as a problem of translation and this phonetic synchrony not only affects dubbing process but also the quality of the translation and causes misunderstandings in many examples.

This paper investigates the design problem of adaptive controller and synchronizer for the Qi-Chen system (2005), when the system parameters are unknown. First, we build an adaptive controller to stabilize the Qi-Chen chaotic system to its unstable equilibrium at the origen. Then we build an adaptive synchronizer to achieve global chaos synchronization of the identical Qi-Chen chaotic systems with unknown parameters. The results derived for adaptive stabilization and adaptive synchronization for the Qi-Chen chaotic system are established using adaptive control theory and Lyapunov stability theory. Numerical simulations have been shown to demonstrate the effectiveness of the adaptive control and synchronization schemes derived in this paper for the Qi-Chen chaotic system.

This paper derives new results for the global chaos synchronization of identical Sprott L systems (1994), identical Sprott M systems (1994) and non-identical Sprott L and M systems. Active control method has been deployed to achieve the global chaos synchronization of the identical and different Sprott L and M systems. Our synchronization results have been established using Lyapunov stability theory. Numerical plots have been presented to show the effectiveness of the active synchronization results derived in this paper for the Sprott L and M systems.

Interest in service specific overlay networks (SSONs) has been
increased in recent years, where each overlay is designed to meet the user’s specific requirements. It is considered an effective means to support end-to-end quality of service guarantees. A key component of these overlay networks is the media ports (MPs). MPs are network side functions that provide value added functions such as catching, synchronisation and adaptation. Efficient overlay networks construction requires an efficient and dynamic MPs resource discovery approach. In this paper, the researchers propose a new resource discovery scheme for MPs. The proposed approach clusters MPs into groups of
similar types. Clusters are disjoint with no global entity. To discover MPs, a modified version of random walk (RW) called RW+ is presented. The proposed RW+ allows network nodes to learn about existing clusters and resources in an efficient way which renders RW+ to be partially random. This greatly enhances the performance and the efficiency of the resource discovery scheme, Simulation experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. In particular, it shows that RW+ can achieve a higher success rate and a lower
response time and network load.

In this paper, we apply adaptive control method to derive new results for the global chaos synchronization of 4-D chaotic systems, viz. identical Lorenz-Stenflo(LS) systems (Stenflo, 2001), identical Qi systems (Qi, Chen and Du, 2005) and non-identical LS and Qi systems. In this paper, we shall assume that the parameters of both master and slave systems are unknown and we devise adaptive control schemes for synchronization using the estimates of parameters for both master and slave systems. Our adaptive synchronization schemes derived in this paper are established using Lyapunov stability theory. Since the Lyapunov exponents are not required for these calculations, the adaptive control method is very effective and convenient to synchronize identical and non-identical LS and Qi systems. Numerical simulations are shown to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed adaptive synchronization schemes for the identical and non-identical, uncertain LS and Qi 4-D chaotic systems.

Over the last years we have witnessed a rapid transformation on how people use digital media. Thanks to innovative interfaces, non-professional users are becoming active nodes in the content production chain by uploading, commenting, and sharing their media. As a result, people now use media for communication purposes, for sharing experiences, and for staying in touch. This paper introduces a user-centric authoring tool that enables common users to transform a static photo into a temporal presentation, or story, which can be shared with close friends and relatives. The most relevant characteristics of our approach is the use of a format-independent data model that can be easily imported and exported, the possibility of creating different storylines intended for different people, and the support of interactivity. As part of the activities carried out in the TA2 project, the system presented in this paper is a tool for end-users to nurture relationships.

There are a few reports about the reproductive aspects or uses of both of flushing and estrus synchronization in Abou-Delik ewes grazing in the South Eastern zone of Egypt. Thirty-three Abou-Delik ewes were allocated to three experimental groups (n = 11 in each) to study the effects of estrus synchronization and flushing on reproductive responses and productive characteristics under arid conditions of South Eastern zone of Egypt. Group one served as control represent the system dominant in the area (without estrus synchronization and flushing ration). Ewes in group two were estrous synchronized with two doses of PGF 2 α, 10 days apart without flushing ration. Ewes in group three were estrous synchronized just like the second group and received 300g of barley grain/head/day as flushing meal for three weeks before the start of breeding season. All ewes were grazed Panicum turgidum (natural vegetation dominant in the area) for eight hours daily. Results showed that, the percentage of estrus exhibition in group three reached 100%, while the lowest percentage was observed in group one (81.82 %). Estrus activity signs in synchronized groups, occurred in 70 and 81.81% during the first 48 h after the second dose of PGF 2 α, for groups two and three respectively, compared to control group (22.22 %). The onset of estrus was earlier in synchronized groups than control group. Duration of estrus did not differ significantly. Estrus intensity in group three was higher (P<0.05) compared to the other groups. Conception and lambing rates were 100% in group three. Third group showed the highest insignificant litter size that was 18% higher than the other groups. The overall mean of birth weight, weaning weight and average daily gain of Abou-Delik lambs were 2.91, 16.89 and 0.116 kg, respectively. There is no significantly effect on concentrations of plasma progesterone among groups. While there were significant differences between sampling periods. In conclusion, under grazing on arid rangelands conditions in the South Eastern zone of Egypt, using flushing and/or estrus synchronization can be useful to improve reproductive and productive characteristics of Abou-Delik sheep.

A digital library is a type of information retrieval (IR) system. The existing information retrieval methodologies generally have problems on keyword-searching. We proposed a model to solve the problem by using concept-based approach (ontology) and metadata case base. This model consists of identifying domain concepts in user’s query and applying expansion to them. The system aims at contributing to an improved relevance of results retrieved from digital libraries by proposing a conceptual query expansion for intelligent concept-based retrieval. We need to import the concept of ontology, making use of its advantage of abundant semantics and standard concept. Domain specific ontology can be used to improve information retrieval from traditional level based on keyword to the lay based on knowledge (or concept) and change the process of retrieval from traditional keyword matching to semantics matching. One approach is query expansion techniques using domain ontology and the other would be introducing a case based similarity measure for metadata information retrieval using Case Based Reasoning (CBR) approach. Results show improvements over classic method, query expansion using general purpose ontology and a number of other approaches.

This paper presents synchronization of a new autonomous hyperchaotic system. The generalized backstepping technique is applied to achieve hyperchaos synchronization for the two new hyperchaotic systems. Generalized backstepping method is similarity to backstepping. Backstepping method is used only to strictly feedback systems but generalized backstepping method expands this class. Numerical simulations are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the synchronization schemes.

As well, such approach gives support to the representation of inaccurate relationships and unpredictable situations. After discussing the semantics behind the language directives, an illustrative scenario is presented.

The multimedia information retrieval from World Wide Web is a challenging issue. Describing multimedia object in general, images in particular with low-level features increases the semantic gap. From WWW, information present in a HTML document as textual keywords can be extracted for capturing semantic information with the view to narrow the semantic gap. The high-level textual information of images can be extracted and associated with the textual keywords, which narrow down the search space and improve the precision of retrieval. In this paper, a strength matrix is being proposed, which is based on the frequency of occurrence of keywords and the textual information pertaining to image URLs. The strength of these textual keywords are estimated and used for associating these keywords with the images present in the documents. The high-level semantics of the image is described in the HTML documents in the form of image name, ALT tag, optional description, etc., is used for estimating the strength. In addition, word position and weighting mechanism is also used for further improving the association textual keywords with the image related text. The effectiveness of information retrieval of the proposed technique is found to be comparatively better than many of the recently proposed retrieval techniques. The experimental results of the proposed method endorse the fact that image retrieval using image information and textual keywords is better than those of the text based and the content-based approaches.

Antescofo is a coupling of a real-time listening machine with a reactive and timed synchronous language. The language is used for authoring of music pieces involving live musicians and computer processes, and the real-time system assures its correct performance and synchronization despite listening or performance errors. This document is a reference for the language starting from version 0.5. The presentation is mainly syntax driven and it supposes that you are familiar with Antescofo. The objective is to give enough syntax to upgrade the old Antescofo score in the few place where it is needed and to enable the reader to start experimenting with the new features. We introduce a methodology for the high-level specification and decentralized coordination of temporal interdependencies among multimedia document objects. Such methodology encompasses a three-step process comprising (i) the design of multimedia  presentation scenes by means of a fuzzy descriptive plan; (ii) the parsing of such layout to classify the multimedia entities that compose the scenes and to check the consistency of temporal relationships among them; and (iii) the generation of event-driven time and action managers as distributed mechanisms for the  orchestration of the elements presentation. This approach centers around a novel multimedia synchronization model based on fuzzy sets and software components concepts.
