WINGATE, N.C. -- The No. 9 ranked Duquesne University triathlon team began its second season of competition on Sunday at the Bulldog SuperSprint Kickoff, hosted by Wingate University. The Dukes had nine athletes compete and finished in third place as a team.

The kickoff race featured a competitive field with nationally ranked teams across all three NCAA divisions. The event was throughout the Wingate campus and had a format that including morning preliminaries and afternoon finals.
Five Duquesne athletes made the finals with freshmenÂ
Rachele Lavagno and
Isabelle Bannister leading the way at seventh and eighth in the A-wave. Lavagno charted a team-best 25:13 in the finals and Bannister followed with a 26:03.
Vivien Mattice (27:07),
Sophie Brandwene (27:32) and
Kate Potashnik (27:33) finished consecutively in 19th, 20th and 21st of the B-wave finals.
Abby Kreber (28:01),
Alexandria Meyers (28:07),
Ella Butterfield (29:24) and
Lia Bartholomew (29:47) rounded out the competing Dukes in the preliminaries.
DU totaled 168 points in third place of seven. Wingate, ranked second nationally in Division II, won the home race with 203 points, No. 3 Queens followed with 178 and Emmanuel was fourth with 88.

Duquesne will host its second annual Duquesne Invitational on Saturday, September 14 at Brady's Run Park in Beaver Falls. The race will begin at 7:30 a.m., more information can be found on the
