BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The No. 9 ranked Duquesne triathlon team hosted the second annual Duquesne University Invitational on Saturday morning at Brady's Run Park. Freshman
Eliza Miller led the Dukes with a sixth place finish, as seven placed in the top 25 and all 13 DU athletes finished in the top 50.
RESULTS
"I thought the girls looked great ... It was fun to be on our home course and I thought they all did extremely well," said head coach
Joella Baker. "Just a great team effort."
Miller's sixth place finished clocked a 1:04:04.66,
Isabelle Bannister (1:05:31.57) and
Andie Psilopoulos (1:05:38.58) followed back-to-back in 11th and 12th place.
Tamara Kun (1:06:16.91 - 14th place),
Abby Kreber (1:07:08.51 - 17th place) and
Vivien Mattice (1:07:16.45 - 19th place) all ran inside the top 20 of the 66-athlete field.
Psilopoulos (11:02), Miller (11:04) and Bannister (11:06) were the top three athletes out of the water in the swim portion. Bannister turned in a 30:24 on the bike, the third-fastest time in the race, and Miller paced Duquesne running with a 20:34.
Five of DU's top six finishers in the meet were newcomers to the program.
The course at Brady's Run Park was a draft-legal sprint distance race, featuring a 750 meter swim, 12.4 mile bike and 3.1 mile run.
"It's a beautiful course, it's a tough course ... probably one of the toughest out there," said Baker of the host site. "This course challenges everybody. There's two big hills on the run. Our girls really attacked it."
