Sulfur dioxide may be converted to SO3, which has
many uses including the production of H2SO4 and
sulphonation of detergent. As gas stream having the
composition shown in Figure P12.23 is to passed
through a two-stage converted. The fraction conversion
of SO2 to SO3(one pass though) in the first stage is 0.75
and in the second stage is 0.65. To boost the overall
conversion to 0.95, some of the exit gas from stage 2 is
recycled back to inlet of stage 2.
