My name is Gurgopal singh and I live in Pathankot, Punjab with my mother .My father has been
passed away in july 2017 .He was a Civil Engineer in ranjeet sagar dam and my mother is a
house wife. I have 2 sisters and they both lives in Australia. My elder sister is working as a Duty
manager in Woolworths and my younger sister is working as a Retail Associate in Woolworths .

I completed my 10th Class in 2010, from Presentation Public School, Pathankot affiliated to
C.B.S.E, New Delhi and scored CGPA 9.2 in 10th Class Board Examination. For scoring, above 9.0,
I received Full Scholarship for my further schooling. I completed my 12th Class in 2012, from
Presentation public school, Pathankot affiliated to C.B.S.E, New Delhi and scored 87.4% in Non-
Medical Stream. From, my childhood days,I was always fascinated with taking things apart and
figuring out how they worked together and also I was very good in Maths and physics So , I
chose Bachelors of Engineering, in Mechanical from Dr.B.R. Ambedkar National Institute of
Technology (N.I.T), Jalandhar which is among Top Engineering Colleges in India. As part of my
course, I joined Sonalika International tractors limited, Hoshiarpur for Six Weeks Industrial
Training, where I learnt about Heavy machine shop Engine Assembly, Light machine shop and
Gear and Heat treatment .I completed my graduation in June, 2016 with CGPA 6.77.

Being from Engineer class background I had always inclined to persue a career as an Engineer
where I would take many different careers and will have money and job security. So after
completion of my Bachelor Degree,I started preparing for entrance Exams of Mechanical
engineer jobs in Punjab and Central government . I took various exams from July 2016 to
March 2017. Unfortunately I didn't get interview call from any of them because they were
preferring students who had higher education in Mechanical engineering then graduates
.Because my Dad was a Engineer with Punjab government I always wanted to be part of it too. I
was shattered to not to have an interview call from any of their department and then my
Mother advised me to pursue higher education in engineering for my inner growth and
satisfaction.

After hearing advised from my mother , I thought that I need a global exposure, so that, I can
grow my chances to get my Dream job . I realised that I need to have an International Degree,
which will provide me with required skills and exposure. Getting a chance to interact with
teachers and students from all over the world and sharing my experiences with them, and
learning from theirs, will be of great value. Going to a different country, for pursuing higher
studies, is getting out of that comfort zone, and the protected environment, that one has in his
own native country, which will help me discover myself, as I will have to find my own way out,
discover new horizons, learn different cultures, traditions and adapt to a whole new
environment So, I decided to study, a Masters Degree in Engineering from abroad.

I took IELTS on 30 September 2017 and got my result on 12th , October 2017 and got overall 6.5
Bands.

I started looking out for options in countries like USA, UK, and Canada but found that Australian
Education System was more suitable to me as compared to others. Apart from TOEFL, USA
Universities require high score of GMAT, which will need preparations for another 9-10 months,
which I was not ready to take, so I chose Australia Universities, which do not require GMAT.
Also, Cost of Living, while studying was much higher in USA and UK as compared to Australia.
With rising hate crimes in USA and rising terrorism in UK, Australia is the best option for me.In
Australia, every 4th person is an immigrant, so it provides a great opportunity to interact and
learn from students with diverse backgrounds and culture.Favourable Working Conditions for
international students, while studying and full support from Australian Government, makes
Australia an obvious choice.

Deakin University, a globally recognised university and one of the largest providers of higher
education in Australia, with its focus on providing education, in accordance with ever changing
global needs, was an obvious first choice for me. With the presence of some of the world's best
researchers and getting an opportunity to work under their guidance, will be of great value,
personally as well as professionally. Deakin receive one of the highest starting salaries in whole
Asia Pacific Region and majority of them, find employment, within few months after completion
of course, that made choosing Deakin easier. Since, it is located in State's Capital, Melbourne,
which is Educational as well as Financial Hub of Australia, it will open doors for a whole number
of opportunities during and after completion of course, providing required boost for my
professional career.Moreover, Tuition Cost is lower as compared to other universities, such as
Monash University, University of Western Australia etc. Also, it offer scholarships to
international students .Hence, Studying in World Class University, Ranked in Top 300 Globally
will be proud moment, which will give me a chance to study and learn with best of creative and
independent thinkers, from around the globe.

I selected Deakin, Master of Engineering course, because of its structure and unique core
subjects such as Academic Integrity ,Introduction to work placement, Safety induction program,
Engineer sustainability and variety of Elective Subjects to choose from. I think, with change in
global needs towards sustainable management, and organizations understanding their role
towards society, studying the above stated subjects will help me learn and understand the
duties of a responsible Engineer, how to self-assess weakness and strengths and how to work
upon them.Good Work Ethics and being a Responsible Leader have always been my top
priority. This course consists of 16 subjects, with 8 core subjects and 4 electives,4 specialization
units with 16 credit points . Subjects like safety induction program will help me learn and
understand the very basics of mechanical and electronic hazards, building evacuation
procedures, laboratory accident management and first aid procedures to fieldwork , as they are
the fundamentals of successful Engineer. As my career goal, is to take a Government job with
Punjab Government studying subjects like Engineering Sustainability will provide me with all
necessary knowledge and skills, required.

I hope, this course will help me to get good career opportunities not only in my home country
but anywhere else in the world. This specialized Master Degree of Deakin would open a world
of career opportunities for me such as Mechanical Engineer,Project Engineer and Project
engineer etc. So with these skills and exposure, I would be able to start my career with reputed
Government and Private Organisations in any field with annual package of INR 12 -20 lacs.

At the end, I would like to state that I am aware that I would be abiding by the terms and
conditions of Australian government while studying in Australia. I am aware that I would not be
able to work part time more than 40 hrs per fortnight, during my study and I would have to
maintain my 80% attendance and 50% pass grades while studying in university. I am aware that
I would have to inform the High Commission regarding any change in my address and contact
details within 7 days during my stay in Australia. I would be maintaining my OSHC during my
stay in Australia.

At the end, I hope visa officer would be convinced with my reasons of coming to Australia and
accept my candidature for grant of student visa. Thank you so much for giving me this
