STEP 1: INTRODUCTION
a. OBJECTIVE OF THE EXERCISE
To understand the stress analysis of a plate having width 200 mm, height 100mm, thickness 20
mm and circular hole at the center of the plate of radius 20 mm , Material of plate is Steel having
Ex 200000 and Poisson ratio 0.3. Load of 20N/mm distributed on the right hand side of the plate as
shown in figure
Calculate Deflection and stress on the plate end by dividing the distributed load by the thickness of
the plate

STEP 1: INTRODUCTION
a. OBJECTIVE OF THE EXERCISE
To plot deformed shape. And determine the principal stress and the von Mises stress. Find the
maximum load the object can take. Clearly mention the yield stress that have assumed for steel.
Also assume factor of safety of 1.25.

Boundary conditions: The object is fixed around the inner surface of the hole.
Loading: The object is loaded uniformly (1000 N/cm2) along the top surface of the extended
beam.

STEP 1: INTRODUCTION
a. OBJECTIVE OF THE EXERCISE

Find the maximum deflection due to this loading. A horizontal cantilever of uniform section of length L
carries two point loads, W at the free end and 2W at a distance of a from the free end.

If the cantilever is a steel tube of circular section 100 mm external diameter and 6 mm thick and l = 1.50
meters and a = 0.60 meter. So that the maximum bending stress is 140 N/mm 2 and calculate the maximum
deflection for the loading. Take e = 2x10 5 N/mm2. poission ratio zero. Take material beam – 2 D elastic
area = 1770 mm2 ; IZZ = 0.196E7 W= 1667N.

Title of the exercise : Convective heat transfer analysis of a 2D
component

STEP 1: INTRODUCTION
a. OBJECTIVE OF THE EXERCISE

To understand convective heat transfer analysis of a 2D component and the temperature field in
the slab 50 seconds after the boundary conditions have been suddenly applied to the slab.
Problem Description:
The slab is made of material with density 5000 kg/m3. Its specific heat is 200 J/Kg K, and thermal
conductivity is 5 W/m K. The bulk temperature on the right of the slab is 293K, and the Film
Coefficient is 100 W/m2K. On the left side the temperature on the boundary is 773K.
Rectangular slab with a hole in its center. It is maintained at a constant temperature at one end and
there is convective heat transfer at the other end. The top and bottom of the slab are insulated.
Geometry:
The hole in the center has a radius of 1cm. The hole is located at the center of the slab. See figure
for the rest of the dimensions.
