    Considering the state of the Philippines right now, we think that animal rights and welfare

    shouldn’t be a concern for our country, and we should value human welfare well above that of
    animal welfare, simply because we can’t afford to have it the other way around. First world
    countries often appear to care more for the welfare of animals bred for food than we do millions
    of humans who are dying from preventable causes - such as starvation. That is because they have
    the enough wealth to have the technology and sanitation in food production that we simply lack.
    First world countries rarely go hungry. In fact, they benefit from industries that is wholly geared
    towards the production of vast amounts of high-quality foods that are cleanly and efficiently
    shipped to the squeaky-clean supermarkets down the road. While us on the other hand, we haven’t
    even solved the issue of Starvation in our country. We should leave that problem to the first world
    countries as they are fortunate enough to live in a country characterized by tremendous wealth and
    abundance.
    However, animals should have rights. Animals have the right to live a life free of pain and
    suffering. Just because us humans are at the top of the food chain, it doesn’t mean we are the only
    ones with rights. All living things make up a balanced ecosystem and within this system all things
    have their rightful place and earn the necessary consideration and respect for that place and
    balance. Animals are sentient beings, they do not have a voice, we should be their voice and
    protect them, because this is where the concept of animal rights is rooted. Animals are a major part
    of the environment. To protect the rights of animals is must to every human in the environment.

    We agree with Utilitarian approach, which states that animal ethics should be morally
    considered. It means that this is the duty of humans to protect animal rights. However, is killing
    an animal for cosmetic products and leather jackets really justified? Can’t people live without pure
    leather products and fur jackets? Because as far as we know we can live without them. These are
    luxuries of life and not a necessity. Only rich people can afford them too, poor people can’t live
    with these kinds of luxuries so can’t we just all accept synthetic products and save the wildlife.
    Businessmen should try to think ethically and save animals which will contribute a lot more to a
    much ethical environment. Animals are a part of our environment and are living creatures. They
    breathe; need food, shelter and love. We as human beings should take care of the animals and put
    every effort forward to protect them from abuse and over killing. The use of animals in
    experiments, testing and clothes should be minimized.
