Click Yes

When you launch ET from within STW or stand alone you will get this prompt. Click
Yes if you want to save and submit warranty reports before proceeding.
Click No if want to proceed to Cat ET without saving a warranty report.

If there is any question if it is going to be a warranty claim, you should answer Yes
to the prompt. The .xml file that is created in CAT ET can then be sent to SIMSi
or added to a service report.

Fill in all known header information. Follow the instructions at top
for navigation. The “Dealer Code where repair performed” is now required.
The dealer code entries are retained until overwritten. When finished click next.
If you enter a “Work order# or dealer claim#” it will be part of the file name.
(This information is for record keeping and is not required)

Click Download to download the reports. All downloads will
become part of the warranty report.

A progress bar is displayed while downloading.

Click next when download is finished.

Skip this screen until you have run the Cylinder Cutout
Reports. If the repair does not require Cylinder Cutout
Reports you will not need to do anything on this screen.

The fourth screen is for additional reports. A new row is added
automatically after a description is placed in the first row.
Follow instructions at the top of the service tool screen. The attached
file is not viewable from within the warranty report. You must click the
save icon to save the file and view separately.
Click next.

You cannot edit anything on this page. Click upload.

Click yes to continue with upload and/or save.

1 User Invalid. Authorization failed.


2 Checksum not valid. File has been altered.
3 Database unavailable
4 Serial Number invalid or missing
5 Part Number invalid or missing
6 Dealer Code invalid or missing
7 Repair Date invalid or missing
8 Not valid XML file. DTD does not match
9 Duplicate record
10 File Missing
11 Invalid File Type. File must be XML
12 Not a valid version of Warranty Report
13 Unable to process Warranty Report due to unknown reason
14 Session Timeout error
15 Unknown error
16 File size should be less than 3MB
17 Report is Altered
18 Database Problem in retrieving maximum sequence numbers
19 Database Problem while persisting data
20 SUCCESS
21 Parsing Exception. XML may contain Invalid characters

There is now an “Upload History” button in the lower right corner.
An upload history screen will appear. For the reports that have not
been uploaded, check the box next to the report and click “Upload
Selected” button

The file name can be changed to your filing convention. Files are saved in
C:\Program Files\Caterpillar Electronic Technician\Downloads\Warranty
See page # 13 and 14 if you want to change the default file location.

There are several ways to open a warranty report. Click Yes
when the screen below appears. Follow the instructions
for opening an existing file for more info (next slides).

Adding a Cylinder Cutout Report to the
warranty report

The serial numbers must match on the warranty report
and the cylinder cutout report. These are the serial number’s that
are in the file and not the number’s in the file name.

•Attach the “failed” Cylinder Cutout Report to a warranty report


along with the “passed” Cylinder Cutout Report. Save this report. Do
the same for each “failed” Cylinder Cutout Report. Use the same
“passed” Cylinder Cutout Report on each warranty report. Submit all
to SIMS.

If it is necessary to add a Cylinder Cutout Test or open a
warranty report file after disconnecting from the truck
follow the steps below.
•Start Cat ET and run in disconnected mode.
•Click File
•Click Open
•Select Warranty Report Data File.
•Select the file you want to open.
•Click open

with these ECMs. These ECMs have 40 pins connectors
