Learning Task # 2 (Formative Assessment) : Renaline Trinidad
Learning Task # 2 (Formative Assessment) : Renaline Trinidad
Education is a lifetime process with no true beginning or ending. Education consists of experience,
environment, socialization, and communication. John Dewey assumed that ‘’all genuine education comes
through experience.’’ This also means that we learn through action, and being involved in the processes will
get to the end product. Progressivist believed that people learn best from what they consider most relevant to
their lives, progressivists center their curricula on the needs, experiences, interests, and abilities of students.
Man is basically what he makes of himself, and thus is responsible for his actions. This is what Sartre means
when he claims that man is condemned to be free. This quotation states that men are free to choose to create
their own purpose in life. It is up to each of us to decide what we do with our life; that we have freedom to
shape out future.
ESSENTIALISM 3. “Gripping and enduring interests frequently grow out of initial learning efforts that are not
appealing or attractive.”
"Gripping and enduring interests frequently grow out of initial learning efforts that are not appealing or
attractive." William Bagley Essentialism refers to the "traditional" or "Back to the Basics" approach to
education. It is so named because it strives to instill students with the “essentials” of academic knowledge and
character development. This quotation states that, the control, direction, and guidance of the immature by
the mature is inherent in the prolonged period of infancy or necessary dependence peculiar to the human
species.
BEHAVIORISM 4. “Give me a dozen healthy infants, well informed, and my own specified world to bring them
up in and I’ll guarantee to tale anyone at random and train him to become any type of specialist I might select
---doctor, lawyer, artist, merchant---chief; and yes, even beggar-man and thief, regardless of his talents, penchants,
tendencies, abilities, vocations, and race of his ancestors.” Watson
This quotation states that any person can be trained to perform any task, regardless of things like genetic
background, personality traits, and internal thoughts (within the limits of their physical capabilities); all it
takes is the right conditioning.
EXISTENTIALISM 5. “Existence precedes essence.” Sartre
‘’Existence precedes essence’’ means that a personality is not built over a previously designed model or a
precise purpose, because it is the human being who chooses to engage in such enterprise”. It says that human
is responsible for himself, and for all men. And that is what existentialist believed in. They believe that
humans define their own meaning in life.
‘’Life is what you make it’’ means that when things occur in your life, it is your perspective that governs your
feelings about what happens. Whatever life gives you, in every situation, it is our decision what kind of
response are we going to do.
LINGUISTIC PHILOSOPHY 7. “Listening in dialogue is listening more to meaning than to words… In true
listening, we reach behind the words; see through them, to find the person who is being revealed. Listening is a
search to find the treasure of the true person as revealed verbally and non-verbally…” – John Powell
Listening has great power. It draws thoughts and feelings out of people as nothing else can. When someone
listens to you well, you become aware of feelings you may not have realized that you felt. You have ideas you
may have never thought before. You become more eloquent, more insightful. Listening requires a desire to
understand another human being, an attitude of respect and acceptance, and a willingness to open one's mind
to try and see things from another's point of view.
LINGUISTIC PHILOSOPHY 8.” When a relationship is working the act of communicating seems to flow
relatively effortlessly” …: - Chip Rose
Communication helps build relationships for several reasons. First, the more you listen, the more
you learn about others' perspectives. Listening thoughtfully, without judgement or interruption, is
also a show of caring and respect. With stronger relationships come deeper feelings of trust.
