Course/Year Level MID-II and BSPHARM-II Topic No. 1 Moral issue of Patients’ Rights This topic deals with the moral issue of patients’ rights and the application of different ethical theories. Knowledge of the patients’ rights enables the learners to ensure that all patients are treated with respect, consideration and dignity. More importantly, it teaches the Introduction learners to be mindful of their obligation to provide the patient complete information concerning their diagnosis, treatment and prognoses, and the importance of allowing the patients the opportunity to participate in decisions involving their health care. After reading the topic, the learners shall be to:
a. Define “patients’ rights;”
b. Define related terminology associated with patients’ rights; c. Describe the healthcare responsibilities in relation to patients’ Objectives rights; d. Explain the ramification for not adhering to or not respecting the patients’ rights; and e. Communicate and justify his/her view and opinion on the moral issue of patients’ rights. Discussion: Please see handout reading materials. After reading the topic, the learners shall answer chapter review Practice questions to test their understanding of the topic discussed herein. Provide an avenue for validating learning by conducting online classes, if applicable, using any class app platform, subject to availability of Teacher Intervention students’ internet connectivity, and for entertaining and clarifying questions by available means possible including, but not limited to, call/text messaging/e-mail/chat. The learners shall answer a 50-item multiple choice questions (MCQ) exam which covers the topics discussed prior to COVID-19 pandemic Assessment and all other topics given thereafter.
