Speak It Out!
The class will deliver an individual, 5-minute extemporaneous speech from any of their chosen
topic using the different types of cohesive devices (transitional words and phrases and
conjunctions). The rubric for grading is found below.
Activity #2
The entire class will be divided into two groups. Each group must create a PowerPoint
presentation/visual aids about cohesive devices. Group 1 will deal with transitional words and
phrases; Group 2 will be on conjunctions. The criteria for grading their Power Point/Visual Aids
are as follows:
Content—50%
Organization—20%
Creativity—20%
Style-10%
Activity #3
The class will find a pair and will dig into the puzzle that is similar with the one below which
contains the cohesive devices (transitional words and phrases and conjunctions). The pair who
can list the most number of devices will earn additional points higher than the rest of the group.

Activity #4
The students will be grouped into three and will perform a short game entitled; “Sort Them
Out!” wherein students will categorize the cohesive devices listed inside the box and identify its
appropriate function (to signal addition, to signal order or sequence, to signal comparisons, to
signal alternatives, etc.) They may have their answers written in a manila paper following the
format below.

Activity #5
Talk..Talk..Talk!
The students will create a panel discussion about the importance, uses, function, and purpose of
cohesive devices (transitional words and phrases and coordinating/subordinating conjunctions).
The rubric for grading is found below.
Activity #6
The students will create a play using the different cohesive devices in creating their dialogues
and lines about their freely chosen topic. The play presentation will be graded following the
rubrics below.
Activity #7
The students will listen to an audio presentation about cohesive devices particularly on
conjunctions and will list down the connectors that they can find which are associated the above-

The class will perform an individual pen and paper assessment by selecting the appropriate
function of the underlined cohesive device in each statement. The answers can be chosen from
the box below.

The class will perform a triad activity wherein they will be tasked to interpret a picture relating
to the context of cohesive devises. Each triad will be given 2 pictures to interpret; they shall
write their answers in a manila paper provided by the teacher. The picture below will be the
subject of interpretation
Activity #10
Tell Me What…
The students will complete the chart which is composed of the following: Part of the lesson that
the child found/considered… enjoyable, helpful, most difficult, suggests ways to get away with
the most difficult points, hope/ expect to improve/ strengthen in the next lesson, and what would
he/she likes to work further on regarding the topic.
