Observation: After visiting the doctor for the flu like symptoms. Sarah’s doctor recommended her to
drink generous amounts of orange juice. At home, she notices freshly squeezed, pure orange juice in the
refrigerator. Next to this was a carton of store-bought orange juice. Sarah wonders which of the 2 juices
will provide her with more vitamin C.
Hypothesis: Freshly squeezed orange juice will provide Sarah with more vitamin C, whereas from the
store will not. With freshly squeezed orange juice you will get 100% vitamin C.
Materials/Apparatus: pipette, 6 conical flask, iodine solution, starch indicator solution, pipette filler, fresh
orange juice, heated orange juice, dropper, burette.
Method:
TABLE SHOWING THE TITRATION RESULTS RECORDED FROM THE UNHEATED ORANGE JUICE AND THE
HEATED ORANGE JUICE.
Expected Results: Fresh orange juice is a better choice than the store because there are other added
nutrients in it, whereas the fresh orange juice is high in vitamin C. Ascorbic acid + I 2 to produce 2 I +
dehydroascorbic acid.

Assumption: The freshly squeezed orange juice has a higher concentration of ascorbic acid when
compared to the store-bought orange juice.
Conclusion: It was determined that freshly squeezed orange juice is a healthy choice than store-bought
orange juice.
