ACTIVITY 1 (BUSINESS STATISTICS)

A. Discuss the importance of statistics in the following fields:

a. Education
• The Significance of Statistics in Education is defined as 'the
essence and significance of statistics in all fields of learning'
including mathematics, education, business, science, computer
science, and history, emphasizing the importance and role of
statistics in educational research. In addition, the importance of
statistics in education is discussed in further detail below:
Statistics in Education assists in the calculated and systematic
collecting and display of data. Statistics in education aids in the
organization of processed as well as raw data. It improves the
efficiency of teaching and learning. Scores are gathered and
analyzed throughout this procedure to make judgments. Thus,
statistics permit an impartial examination of these scores. It
assists in the production and presentation of precise
descriptions. It aids in the Description of Findings section
because it permits the computation and good summary of the
results in a relevant and accessible format; statistics offers data
structure. It contributes to the hospital's analysis. Consider that
if a physician anticipates a condition using statistical analysis,
he will likely provide the best outcome possible.

b. Business and Economics

• The importance of statistics in the field of business and
economics in terms of business statistics assists a company in
gaining a sense of the big picture through the analysis of a
sample population. Business managers employ statistics to
assist them in making decisions in conditions of ambiguity.
Statistics may be used to forecast sales, do financial analysis on
capital expenditure projects, develop profit predictions for new
products, establish manufacturing volumes, and conduct sample
studies to verify a product's quality. Somewhat of making
conclusions based on unfounded hunches, using statistics
delivers actual data regarding difficult circumstances. In
economics, statistics is critical for comprehending economic
statistics such as the link between quantity and price, supply and
demand, economic output, gross domestic product, and nations'
per capita income.
CORDERO, Shiela Marie B. MATH 1F
BSHM 1-C
c. Research
• Statistics' purpose or importance in research is to serve as a tool
for planning studies, analyzing their data, and making
conclusions. Most research investigations generate raw data,
which must be appropriately reduced to be read clearly and
utilized for further analysis. Statistics play a vital role in
research. Statistics may be used in various ways, including data
collection, analysis, interpretation, explanation, and
presentation. The use of statistics will assist researchers in
properly characterizing, summarizing, presenting, and
interpreting the results of their studies. Statistics gives a
foundation for analysis on how to do research, whether on a
sample or the whole population, gathering and observing data,
and describing data (using a measure of central tendency).

B. Which of the different graphs studied would be most appropriate for

the following:

a. A comparison of changes in average annual per capital income for the

Philippines and another country in Asia from 2000 to 2010.

o The most appropriate graph in this statement is a line graph because you
can see the changes or differences over time using the connected straight
lines.

b. The percentage composition of the monthly budget of P50,000 of
family of five.

o The most appropriate graph in this statement is a pie chart because you
want to show the percentage composition of the monthly budget; for
that reason, pie chart is used to show the percentage of a total and
indicates portions at a particular time point. Pie charts, in contrast to bar
and line graphs, do not depict changes over time.

c. To show the yearly changes in the student population of a certain

university during a 10-year period starting 2009.

o The most appropriate graph in this statement is a bar graph because you
want to show the yearly changes in a particular university's student
population from 2009 to 2018. Additionally, the bar graph compares
sections of the population or monitors and tracks changes over time.
You can also use a line graph in this statement because it is also
suitable.

quantitative 1. the height of each student in Math 1F class

quantitative 2. school organization of each college in TSU

quantitative 3. length of time each of 100 patients must stay in a hospital

D. Solve the following problems.

1. Out of a monthly budget of P35,000, a family of five spent 2/5 for food, 1/5
for rent, 1/7 for education, 1/6 for miscellaneous and the rest were saved.
a. Determine the percentage allotted to each expense and to savings.
 Food – 2/5 equal to 0.4 or 40%  (₱35,000)(40%)= 14,000
 Rent – 1/5 equal to 0.2 or 20%  (₱35,000)(20%)= 7,000
 Education- 1/7 equal to 0.14 or 14%  (₱35,000)(14%)= 4,900
 Miscellaneous – 1/6 equal to 0.16 or 16%  (₱35,000)(16%)= 5,600
 Saved – 1/10 equal to 0.1 or 10%  (₱35,000)(10%)= 3,500
TOTAL: 100% TOTAL: 35,000
CORDERO, Shiela Marie B. MATH 1F

b. Construct a pie graph to illustrate these allotment percentages

c. How much is the amount allotted to each expense and to savings?

 The amount allotted to each expense and savings are the
following:
o Food - 14,000
o Rent – 7,000
o Education – 4,900
o Miscellaneous- 5,600
o Savings – 3,500

2. Present the following data in tabular form.

C. Which cities seem to have the most consistent interest rates? Explain.
- The city with a consistent rate is in Metro Manila because the
percentage of each rate does not deviate in portion; unlike in the two
cities in the Visayas, the reduction is considerable, and the increase in
the interest rate, showing that the tendency is not consistent.
