STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

To,

The Visa Officer,

Canada High Commission,

Subject: Application for study permit

Respected Officer,

I am BOBBY RAJESHKUMAR DABHI, an Indian student writing this letter in support of

my application for a Visa under SDS. My academic and professional background along
with the reasons for the course and future post completion of my studies are detailed in
the document. I have secured my admission for the Master in Engineering in
Mechanical Engineering Program at the University of Windsor, Windsor, Ontario,
Canada for May 2022 intake.

Ever since my school days, I've been interested in the theoretical frameworks in
Mathematics and Sciences, which drive physical world. Before I knew I was deeply
interested in understanding the working of mechanical systems. It started as a matter of
pure curiosity but the more I researched about it the more I wanted to know and explore
this field. After the successful completion of my higher secondary education in applied
science, engineering seemed as a natural extrapolation of my interests, so I decided to opt
for Mechanical engineering as my major for my undergraduate studies.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND:

I have completed my bachelor in Mechanical Engineering from Aditya Silver Oak Institute
of Technology, Gujarat (State of India), affiliated with Gujarat Technological University
(GTU). My undergraduate education has provided a thorough exposure to the various
specialties available in Mechanical engineering such as Machine Design and Industrial
Drafting, Kinematics of Machines,
Mechanical Measurement and Metrology, Theory of Machines, Computer Aided Design and
Computer Aided Manufacturing. At the same time, I came to know about advanced aspects
of mechanical engineering like Operations Research and Finite Element Analysis. The mode
of practical learning along with theory gave me clear explanations about the concepts.

In the final year of my college, I undertook two projects namely "Design and Development
of Concrete Pipe Making Machine" and "Piezoelectric Generator - Energy Harvesting". In the
former one, we successfully built a molding machine, which could perform mixing,
compacting and surface finishing during production of concrete pipes. In the latter one, we
produced electricity by applying pressure on the material (PZT), which was able to
generate relatively high voltage outputs and it also produced alternative source of
renewable energy. Finally, I have passed my undergraduate program with distinction (7.60
CGPA).

During my course, I fulfilled my quest of knowledge by visiting industries and participating

in several workshops. Moreover, I had participated in many technical activities like Cad and
Create, Mind menders and many more. I have completed a practical program of welding as
per NSQF - National Skill Qualification Framework at Pratt Muller Skill Development Center
in which secured "A" grade. Furthermore, I completed certification courses on AutoCAD and
Solid works, venturing into the design aspects of Mechanical engineering.

REASON OF NOT UNDERTAKING STUDIES IN INDIA:

In India, the education system mainly based on theoretical knowledge more than practical
knowledge. The course is not updated as per the current market requirement. The same
kinds of courses are also available in my home country, but the course I am looking for is not
provided by good universities. There is no denying that India is a home to largest number of
Engineers with ample of universities to choose from. Having said that, as India has caste-
based reservation system in almost all universities and given that there are thousands if not
lakhs competing for very low number of seats. We have to appear for one of the toughest
Exams in world, GATE & GMAT (Graduate Aptitude Test of Engineering) to secure admission
in most which take once a year, prestigious colleges in India like IITs (Indian Institute of
Technology), which is very difficult and time consuming process with no guarantee to get a
course & college of our choice.
The similar courses are available in few colleges in India like Master of Engineering
(Mechanical) at Nirma University, Marwadi University, Pandit Deendayal Petroleum
University, Indian Institute of Technology in India but the courses are not advanced as per
the industry requirement and the course framework in under graduation and post-
graduation is Similar. Also, to get admission into post-graduation students must prepare and
write a graduate Aptitude test in engineering exam which is time-consuming. Furthermore,
In India, we do not have an internship as part of the course of practical experience during the
degree. In foreign countries, the syllabus which is taught over here is old and even the
teaching method is old which will not match up the standards of today's industry
requirements.

Secondly the course curriculum which is followed in most universities is quite outdated with
more focus on theoretical aspects over practical. Lack of proper infrastructure and latest
techniques to impart education is one of the prime reasons of not studying in India for my
post-graduation. Moreover, while studying in my home country I cannot get the benefits that
can be gained while studying abroad such as international exposure which would add extra
weight to my resume to get good jobs in future. Secondly, by studying in an English-speaking
country I can improve my communication skills. Last but not the least, the value and
recognition of an international degree due to the latest business techniques and
understanding of the advanced economy are always higher than a local degree especially in
one of the most emerging markets like India today. Hence internationally qualified
candidates are always preferred comparatively. Due to all these merits of overseas
education, I have decided to have an international degree rather a domestic one.

WHY DO I WANT TO STUDY IN CANADA:

After successfully completing my undergraduate program in Mechanical engineering, I

decided to go on and acquire further specialization in the domain of my interest. The good
advantage of pursuing a master's degree in Canada is that it offers education at
comparatively less cost than other western countries with great educational opportunities.
Therefore, paying the fees doesn’t become a burden for international students. Canadian
institutions consistently rank among the best in the world and degrees from these
universities are internationally valued and recognized.
Canada has a very long history of welcoming international students, along with India to
come and have quality education. The diversity of its culture will help me to develop
intercultural and interpersonal skills. The biggest advantage is that its government, as
well as universities, play an important role in the safety of students. Medical insurance
is very inexpensive in almost every hospital in Canada. That is why the United Nations
considered Canada as one of the best places to live. It will be very rewarding to study in
Canada as it will put me at the centre of prosperous social, cultural, and educational
opportunities. Also, there are various places for students to sit and relax and can-do
assignments. Thus, Canada is an ideal country for stress-free and objective-oriented
higher education.

WHY MASTER’S IN ENGINEERING AT WINDSOR UNIVERSITY:

The Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering (M. Eng.ME) program is a

professionally oriented master's degree program that provides advanced knowledge and
experiential opportunities beyond that of a bachelor's degree in Mechanical engineering.
These include the advanced study of design analysis, development creation and maintenance
of mechanical systems. The program is often sought for graduates to quickly obtain the best
positions in the competitive field of mechanical engineering. The Master in engineering
program will allow me to take all the technical courses that I had not had a chance to take
during my undergraduate career. In doing so, I will be able to hone my skills to the point
where I will be confident in my abilities as an engineer. There are several reasons why you
should pursue this degree at the University of Windsor. The University of Windsor, founded
in 1963, is a mid-sized comprehensive university giving students a wide range of academic
possibilities. The University of Windsor now has over 16,000 students and a 100,000-strong
alumni community.

One of the top ten locations to live in Canada in Windsor, Ontario. To ensure that graduates
have the skills and experience they need to thrive in their future employment, the
University emphasizes experiential learning through things like co-op internships and field
courses. With a student-to-faculty ratio of 15:1, the University of Windsor gives importance
to student engagement, which is fundamental to learning and research. By focusing on
experiential learning like a co-op, the university provides graduates with the tools and
skills to make a difference in the world and prepares them for their future careers. The
University campus is in Windsor, Ontario, which is a very safe place for international
students. Overall, the University of Windsor is a good university to educate me and located
in a place where studying will be an honor for me.

The reason for selecting Master of Engineering (Mechanical) is since it is very much relevant
to my previous qualification and interest. I have already studied the core subjects of my field
and I am seeking detailed knowledge of relevant courses. Also, Mechanical engineering is a
branch of engineering that concentrates into the design, production and usage and operation
of machines, from small individual parts and devices (small sensors) to large systems
(spacecraft). Mechanical engineering aims at controlling the principles of motion, energy,
and force through mechanical solutions and deals with analyzing problems to see how
mechanical and thermal devices might help solve a human/social problem, thus inventing
new devices. Mechanical engineering uses concepts of material theory and physics and
combines knowledge of math’s, technology, business, and management. Important sub-
disciplines of mechanical engineering are mechanics, mechatronics, and thermodynamics.

Mechanical engineering is going it be one of the best branches of engineering to be in as the

work I’d do would impact real world and would possibly make it better. Finally, I’d say
Mechanical engineering is at the forefront of developing new technologies for several
industries including transport, healthcare, construction, aerospace, nuclear and robotics. I
believe it is an exciting time to be alive and to be a Mechanical engineer.
FUNDS TO SUPPORT MY STUDIES:

My expenses of university, like travelling, accommodation, are funded by my father. He

owns a business and can easily manage all costs. To validate this, I have paid my fees in
advance for the 2 semesters (1st year) that is CAD $20500 and I have also deposited CAD
$10000 as a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) in Scotia bank to make sure that the
living expenses are covered in Canada. Apart from these, I have complete support from my
family, and they are always ready to help me whenever I need them.

MY FUTURE AMBITIONS:

Mechanical & Manufacturing technology will satisfy this increasing industrial productivity
need. It can boost flexibility and allow industries to boost innovation and allow
manufacturers to produce high quality products which will help them to increase
responsiveness to market demand. It is highly flexible, rapid, and cost-efficient
manufacturing processes that will dramatically change economic competitiveness in many
industries. i.e., food industry, auto industry. Initially I am willing to complete my degree
with good grades and come back to India as my aim was always to be with me family and
take their responsibilities.

My research draws me to a conclusion that in the coming few years, Mechanical will be one
of the most demanded and important branches of engineering. It is a discipline which has
got its own honour, with its mind-blowing concepts with practical application. In the
coming few years, there will be a high demand for Mechanical. It provides a vast
opportunity to plunge into many interesting fields such as Aerospace, Automobile, and
Defense. The Govt. of Gujarat is creating large Project opportunities putting all its efforts to
support various industries around Ahmedabad at Sanand, Dholera, Dahej, GIFT City
Gandhinagar & Mehsana. The Metro Rail between Ahmedabad Gandhinagar & Dholera is all
set to give a start. Sanand, especially is the emerging industrial hub wherein the State
Industries Dept. has given nod to many MNC companies like Ford, MG, Colgate Palmolive,
Nivea, Hitachi, Corning, Allied Minerals, Inbisco, Sacmi and Bosch. Pharmaceutical, Agro
food, Medicinal Devices, Plastic Engineering & General Engineering are the major
industries. With this international qualification, I will be capable to work in well-known
companies in India, such as, BHEL, Thermax, SIEMENS, Reliance Industry, ZINDAL, Adani
group, TATA group, L&T Company, they wish to hire people with international engineering
degree from globally reputed university. I will get good position like Jr Product Developer,
Jr Analytical Designer, Supervisor, Quality Controller and Maintenance Engineer. etc.

lakhs per annum after completing my master’s from Australia. Whereas if I complete my
master’s degree from India the average salary package, I can expect would be around 3-4
lakhs per annum as per payscale.com, seek.com.

In long term goal, I would like to see myself working in Mechanical or Manufacturing unit of
a reputed company where I would get an opportunity to solve major challenges regarding
production and project execution with a package of INR 12 to 15 lakhs annually which will
be a good return on my investment. I am confident that I can distinguish myself as a leader
in my profession and make many valuable contributions to the modernization of my
country. There are equally good opportunities in the private sector for engineers. I am sure
after getting a qualification from the Windsor University will help me to gain excellent
career in leading companies with growth. Specifically saying some areas that India and
largely world is presently focusing on and is advanced robotics, renewable industry,
increasing efficiency of manufacturing processes and expanding technologies like 3D
printing and advanced manufacturing by experimenting more and more, leveraging the
advancement of computer technology in aspects like autonomous driving, electrical planes
etc. After getting a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Windsor University and
getting in depth knowledge of almost all of the above-mentioned technologies, I will work
be willing to work in this growing industry and as these industries are still not matured, the
scope of creativity is very large and I would love to be in a place where creativity is
harnessed and solutions are tailored to help people.

The degree in Mechanical engineering from Windsor University will help me conquer my
above stated dreams as it is highly esteemed university with great alumni network. So, to
surmise, learning exponentially in the beginning of my career about the growing industry
would be my primary aka short term goal. My long-term goal would be coming back to my
country and be a part of future global leader in technology
CONCLUSION

I strongly believe that after days research I have selected the best possible option for
