    COURSE : Public Safety Basic Recruit Course

    MODULE : VI

    SUBJECT : Patrol Theory

    NUMBER OF HOURS : 16 hours (8 hrs. lecture and 8 hrs. PE)

    I- COURSE DESCRIPTION

    The national police has a patrol force or unit maintained in every police stations
    all over the Philippines. The subject focused on operational and functional duties and
    responsibilities of patrol, different types of patrol, tactics and techniques of foot and
    mobile patrols, the psychological impact of uniformed patrolmen and conspicuously
    marked patrol cars as crime deterrent and sociological study of the impact of uniformed
    policemen constantly in a day-to-day contact with the public community participation
    thru the barangay.

    II- COURSE OBJECTIVE:

    General objectives:

    The subject is designed to meet the needs of the students taking up PSBRC in
    preparation for their chosen profession. Help them understand the patrol system as an
    instrument for crime prevention and control. To encourage the students to know by
    heart their role as a member of the PNP and society as a whole.

    Specific objective:

    At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

    1. Gain a comprehensive overview of patrol technique for practical application.


    2. Provide sufficient patrol techniques for practical application
    3. Undertake training programs and procedures applied to police patrol and
    operation

    III- METHODOLOGY

    Towards the attainment of the objectives set forth in this course, the following
    teaching strategies may be utilized:

    Lecture/coaching with power point presentation, orientation session, group


    discussion followed by practical based scenarios.
    IV- MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION

    English is the sole medium of instruction in this course.

    1st Day (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM)

    3.2 Prevent/deter crime
    3.3 Eliminate opportunity for crime

    4 Criteria of efficient communication system in patrol


    4.1 Using the police radio 1 hour
    4.2 Proper response to radio calls

    5 Techniques of patrol
    5.1 Car stops
    5.2 Pedestrian stops 2 hours
    5.3 Methods of patrol
    5.4 Modern patrol practices

    2nd Day (Practical Exercises)

    The practical exercises focus on patrol techniques for every situations commonly
    encountered by the uniformed patrol officer in the field. The aim of the case based
    scenarios to be conducted after the patrol theory is to develop powers of inference of
    the students through systematic practice their duties and responsibilities while in the
    street. The following will be the recommended scenarios to be given during the
    exercises.

    Case 1:

    A police community precinct will be established, equipped with patrol vehicle with
    radio communication and twenty (20) officer led beat patrol personnel. Students will
    performed patrol techniques and how to respond to high risk calls and routine calls
    coming from concerned citizen. If there is a suspect apprehended, students will perform
    on how they deal with the suspect up to its disposition.
