DEFINITION OF
CURRICULUM
Hilda Taba (1962)
"A curriculum usually contains a statement of objectives and specific
objectives; it indicates some selection and organization of content; it either
implies or manifests certain patterns of learning and teaching, whether
because of their objectives or because the content organization requires
them.

Unruh and Unruh (1984)

"Curriculum is defined as a plan for achieving intended learning outcomes: a
plan concerned with purposes, with what is to be learned, and with the result
of instruction".
DEFINITION OF
COMPETENCE

Robert A. Roe (2001),

Competence is defined as ability to adequately perform a task, duty
or role. Competence integrates knowledge, skills, personal
values and attitudes. Competence builds on knowledge and skills
acquired through work experience and learning by doing.
Learning Competencies

A learning competency, sometimes simply called a competency, is a skill

or capability of performing a skill that is necessary in one's field of work
or study.

Learning Competencies are combinations of knowledge, skills and

attitudes that students develop and apply for successful learning, living
and working.
They emphasize aspects of learning that
apply within and across all subject areas.
Alberta’s Kindergarten to Grade 12
curriculum promotes development of the
following competencies, which are
streamlined expressions of the
competencies in the Ministerial Order on
Student Learning (#001/2013):
COMPETENCIES -BASED CURRICULUM
BACKGROUND

The Global developments and changes in various aspects of life

that have come so quickly, it has become a national challenge and
demands immediate and serious attention.
This is very reasonable because the phenomenon in the global era,
especially related to the world of work is always characterized by
uncertainty, the faster and often change and demand greater
flexibility.
DEFINITION OF COMPETENCIES - BASED
CURRICULUM

Competency-based curriculum (CBC) can be interpreted as a

curriculum concept that emphasizes the development of the
ability to do (competence) tasks with certain performance
standards, so that the results can be felt by students in the
form of mastery of a particular set of competencies. CBC is
directed to develop knowledge, understanding, abilities,
values, attitudes, and interests of students in order to be able
to do something in the form of skill, accuracy, and success
with full responsibility.
Competency-based curriculum requires qualified and
professional teachers to collaborate in order to improve
the quality of education. However, this concept cannot
be used as a recipe for solving all educational problems,
but can provide a significant contribution to the
improvement of education (Mulyasa, 2002: 40).
