By the mid 1940's, the diesel revolution was beginning to take a foothold in America's railroad power
once again by MTH Electric Trains. We provide our customers

The first twenty-cylinder diesel ever produced, the EMD
SD-45 set new standards in power and performance in
the very competitive diesel market of the mid-sixties. The
195- ton workhorse achieved 3,600 horsepower - 600
more than the popular SD-40. The powerful-looking
flared radiators gave the SD-45 an awesome and unique
appearance. With over 1,200 units produced, the SD-45

NW-2 Switcher Diesel
With over 1,100 produced, the EMD NW-2 switcher proved to be
one of the most popular switch engines ever manufactured.
Constructed over a 10-year period between 1939 and 1949, NW-2s
performed their switching tasks with great efficiency by utilizing
their 1,000hp prime mover that provided plenty of power for even
the toughest yard duties.
By popular demand, MTH is proud to announce the addition of

more RailKing NW-2 switchers to the RailKing roster. This mighty
workhorse features two flywheel-equipped motors beneath its
durable, intricately detailed ABS shell - all riding atop a metal frame
and die-cast trucks. All-metal gears, trucksides and pilots, metal
handrails, and metal operating couplers ensure that your NW-2 will
be running for years.
As with other RailKing locomotives, the NW-2 is optionally Santa Fe NW-2 Switcher
equipped with the exciting Proto-Sound® Digital Sound and Train Item No. 30-2156
Control System and remotely controlled Proto-Couplers® - perfect
for authentic switching duties. When idling in a yard and not per-
forming switching duties, your NW-2 remains active - as evidenced

Doodlebug
Doodlebug
Even in the heyday of steam, it was still quite expensive
for steam trains to serve passengers on small branch lines
and secondary mainlines. The solution to high-cost, low-rid-
ership routes was the Doodlebug. Doodlebugs were essen-
tially a cross between a locomotive and a passenger car.
The front section housed an internal combustion engine and
the rear housed a passenger or freight compartment.
Larger consists housed the baggage and freight in the rear
compartment and pulled a passenger car behind the
Doodlebug, but most were run as single units. At their peak
of popularity in the 1920's Doodlebugs rode the rails in
Pennsylvania Doodlebug
