“Open innovation” as a catalyst for
innovation

Open Innovation “is the use of purposive

inflows and outflows of knowledge to
accelerate innovation. In practice this leads
to the opening of organizational boundaries
to incite new ideas that develop new
opportunities, inside or outside the formal
organization, with or without compensatory
mechanisms directly tied to the process.”
(CHESBROUGH,2003)

Companies, which implemented the concept of open innovation successfully, report that
this culture is a powerful motivational factor. Nevertheless, the implementation is
opposed to several internal cultural barriers and the lack of willingness for introduction.
