The apparatus consists of a central heater sandwiched between composite wall slabs on both sides. The composite wall is made up of different materials - cast iron, mild steel, and wood plates. Thermocouples between the interfaces measure the temperature at the surface of each material. Experiments are conducted by supplying varying inputs of heat to the central heater and measuring the temperature rise across each material interface to determine the total thermal resistance and thermal conductivity of the composite wall structure.
