BACKGROUND AND ITS SETTING

Introduction
Technological progress is one of the most important aspects of civilization.

That also paved its way as a part of human life. Hence, a remarkable change that has

occurred around the world. It has become the way for communication, learning, and

thinking. Thus, technological advancement played a role in introducing social media

to the people which individuals use to access websites and applications that allow

them to share content, ideas, feelings, opinions, and beliefs and to gain social

interaction from which they can benefit and could also give advantage to their

learning.

As we uphold this phenomenon where everything starts to flare at using social

media, it also demonstrates how adolescents and modern young people are interested

in what they will get from using it. Moreover, World wide web has provided people

with a vast amount of high-quality knowledge that helps everyone to gain

information. With this, social media also contains the pluses of meeting new people,

talking, and developing a sense of connection with everyone. Since then, teenagers

have been introduced to the use of multimedia websites that would allow them to

scrutinize new and up-to-date contrivances. Social media is also an important

component that discusses their 21st Century Learning Skills. These include Critical

Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, and Communication. Therefore, it involves

knowing the use of social media and how it benefits their learning skills. It would aid

in determining the aspects that would contribute to the study's outcome.

This study will focus on two types of social media: media and network

sharing. The researchers want to classify what type of social media they would use

since social media has a broader definition when not classified and for senior high

school students to be aware of the classification of social media.

With this, the researchers will conduct a study that will determine the

beneficial usage of social media and how it gives advantage to their learning skills.

The study will be mainly focused on determining the benefits of social media use on

students and its advantage on their learning skills.

Furthermore, this would be the researcher's foundation to give an accurate and

desirable outcome.

Background of the Study

A previous study by Wilfred Lau (2017) Social media multitasking has also

become increasingly prevalent. Little, however, is known about how social media

usage and social media multitasking influence the academic performance of university

students. This study examined whether and how these two behaviors predict academic

performance among university students. Dumpit, D. Z., and C. J. Fernandez. (2017),

The use of educational technology in the classroom has received a lot of attention in

recent years as a way to improve teaching and learning experiences. With

technological advancements and increased accessibility, educators are experimenting

with new ways to integrate technology tools and resources to improve student

engagement, motivation, and achievement.

According to Bond, Melissa, et al. (2018) The continuous evolution of

educational technology, it is crucial to understand its impact on student learning

outcomes. This study aims to contribute to the existing body of knowledge by

examining the effectiveness of educational technology and shedding lights on its

potential benefits and challenges. By gaining insights into the role of technology in

education, educators and policymakers can make informed decisions regarding its

integration and implementation, ultimately shaping a more effecting and inclusive

education system.

According to a previous study by (Raja and Nagasubramani, 2018) The

internet has grown in importance by many folds, over the process of decade. Its

importance in the education world can now never be undermined. Despite the chances

of fraud and drawbacks, the use of the internet is like a blessing for students. Today,

the internet is something that is present in almost everything we use. From television

to gaming consoles, and our phones, the internet is literally everywhere. The use of

the internet allows students to find amazing convenience, they can find various kinds

academically improve and enhance their learning.

Social media has substantially influenced the youth of the 21st century.

Furthermore, it created opportunities for students in variety of fields. Thus, as we

progress with the future uphold, the researchers would use this as a steppingstone in

knowing the beneficial usage of social media on the learning skills of senior high

school students. Though, with the lack of information concerning its benefits, this

research pursues to fill an inadequate knowledge. With the help of Fiat Lux Academe,

the researchers would be able to arrive at their expected outcome.

and navigating social settings now presents new difficulties. Access to knowledge has

significantly enhanced with the rise of the Internet. Large volumes of information

need to be processed and analyzed by students. Students must be taught how to apply

facts and concepts to complicated issues since content knowledge from core topics

can only take them so far and calls the theory interconnected in this study the 21st

Century Skills Learning Styles which are known as the “four Cs”.

1. Critical thinking: Finding solutions to problems

Critical thinking is crucial to progress in commercial environments. It is the process

that eliminates issues and swaps them out for productive efforts. Due to the difficulty

in confirming accurate information in the twenty-first century, this is crucial

especially with the social media sites. Students may find the truth in claims by using

critical thinking, notably when it comes to differentiating fact from opinion. Students

learn more when they use critical thinking than merely a collection of facts or data.

Instead, kids learn how to do their own independent research to get the information.

They pose inquiries. They start to take an interest in their surroundings. They support

critical thinking in others. When one student masters it, their others catch on fast.

2. Creativity: Thinking outside the box

The skill to be creative is crucial for adaptability. This skill enables pupils to view

ideas from new perspectives, which fosters innovation. Innovation is essential to the

society’s flexibility and overall success in any industry. Students may embrace their

innate talents, such as strategic planning and rigorous organization, via creativity. In

addition to learning about their own creativity, students also learn positive and

constructive methods to exhibit it. More significantly, they are inspired to encourage

others to express their creativity — thus contagious, just like critical thinking does.

3. Collaboration: Working with others

Collaboration entails persuading pupils to cooperate, reach agreements, and provide

the greatest outcomes while tackling an issue. Students learn how to confront an issue,

offer ideas, and select the best course of action when they practice cooperation and

teamwork. They benefit from understanding that not everyone holds the same

opinions as them.

4. Communication: Talking to others

The glue that holds all of these educational traits together is communication. It is

critical for students to understand how to communicate ideas to others with various

personality types. It has never been more crucial for students to learn how to

communicate their ideas in a way that others can comprehend them, especially in the

age of text-based communications like the social media, etc. This is because tone,

which is essential for deciphering the meaning of someone else's words, is absent

from text-based discussions. Even in circumstances where voice tone is accessible,

students still need to master good communication skills. Students in the twenty-first

century will lack a critical skill to advance in their jobs if they do not grasp

appropriate communication skills.

It is true to state that students needed the four C’s for all purposes. Students who

practice critical thinking learn to challenge ideas and look for the truth. Students learn

to think in a style that is particular to them through creativity. Students learn through

collaboration that groups may produce more and superior results than an individual

can. Students that study communication learn how to effectively communicate ideas.

The four Cs work together to enable students to function as independent intellectuals.

Neil Fleming introduced an idea in 1987 that learners are identified by whether they

prefer learning calls the theory interconnected in this study the VARK Learning styles

which are:

1. Visual Learning (pictures, movies, diagrams)

Visual learners learn best via observation. Visual learners benefit from graphic

presentations such as charts, graphs, drawings, handouts, and movies. Visual learners

favor this method of learning because they want to see knowledge given visually

rather than in writing. Do you believe you are a visual learner? Consider the following

queries:

- Do you value art, beauty, and aesthetics?

- Is it true that seeing knowledge in your head aids memory?

- Is it necessary to view information in order to remember it?

- Do you notice slight changes in a person’s body language?

1. Auditory learning (music, discussion, lectures)

For aural (or auditory) learners, hearing information helps them learn. They often

retain a lot of information from lectures and are superb listeners. Do you learn best by

listening? Think about the following inquiries:

- Do you write music to aid remembering facts?

- Does reading aloud improve your memory of what you need?

- Do you like listening to lectures in class than reading from a textbook?

Instead of reviewing your class notes, would you rather listen to a podcast or a

recording of your lecture?

2. Reading and writing (making lists, reading textbooks, taking notes)

Learners of reading and writing prefer to absorb knowledge that is presented as words

and text. Could you benefit from learning to read and write? Consider if any of the

following questions apply to you after reading them.

- Do you like reading definitions, preparing presentations, and making lists?

- Do you think reading your textbook is a fantastic approach to learn new material?

- When reading textbooks and in class, do you take a lot of notes?

- Do you like it when teachers utilize handouts and overheads?

3. Kinesthetic learning (movement, experiments, hands-on activities)

For kinesthetic (or tactile) learners, touching and doing is the greatest way to learn.

Kinesthetic learners benefit from hands-on experience. Unsure if you learn best

physically or mentally? To learn more, respond to these inquiries:

- Are you skilled in practical pursuits like carpentry, painting, cooking and

mechanics?

- Do you prefer doing jobs that need you to work closely with materials and projects?

- Does learning anything require you to put it into practice?

- Do you find it challenging to remain motionless for extended periods of time?

Education has sparked a lot of interest in psychology throughout the past century. The

goal of the VARK theory is to understand the various learning styles and determine

how individuals learn most effectively, with several theorists contributing their

theories. One of the most important foundational elements for academic achievement

is an understanding of how the cogs and gears of the brains work and how we process

knowledge most effectively. Not only it simplifies daily learning, but also discover

that the time being spend revising is far more fruitful and satisfying.

The third theory speaks on emphasizing the concept that firsthand experience is the

greatest method to learn new things. The memories of those encounters remain in

your mind, aiding in the recall of knowledge and facts. In 1984, David Kolb published

this paradigm on the experiential learning theory, or ELT, is what made him most

famous, drawing inspiration from John Dewey, Kurt Lewin, and Jean Piaget, among

other notable theorists. “Learning is the process whereby knowledge is created

through the transformation of experience” (Kolb, 1984). Kolb's experiential learning

cycle model consists of the following:

1. Concrete Experience (Experience) - The learner has a tangible experience. It

might be a brand-new circumstance or experience, or it could be a new way of

looking at an old issue in light of fresh ideas.

2. Reflective Observation (Reflection) - The learner considers the new

experience within the context of their prior knowledge. Any discrepancies

between experience and knowledge are particularly important.

3. Abstract Conceptualization (Conceptualize) - reflection gives rise to a new

idea, or a modification of an existing abstract concept since the person has

learned from their experience.

4. Active Experimentation (Test) - Experimentation is sparked by freshly

developed or updated idea. The individual applies his or her idea(s) to the

environment to observe the results.

Kolb continued by stating that each learner would have a preferred method for

beginning the cycle of experience learning, which may be summed up as a learning

cycle. According to the experiential learning cycle, each person has a unique set of

learning inclinations that are prevalent during different phases of experience learning.

For instance, some students will be stronger in introspective observation and concrete

CHAPTER II
Review of Related Literature

This chapter presents the relevant literature and studies that the researcher considered

in strengthening the importance of the present study. Thus, it will also present the

synthesis of the art to completely understand the research for better comprehension of

the study.

Foreign Studies

According to (Tauritz & Ida, 1999) There are many benefits of using social

media. However, in using social media, filtering information from the over-abundance

of information as a result of the activities poses a challenge to users of social media.

Do users know the impact of not filtering the information? Information filtering is the

term of the information age, where this is based on the relevancy of data and

information. The process of filtering involves the delivery of information to people

who need it. Thus, this study tries to find out the benefits of using social media and

the impact of not filtering the information in using social media.

According to (Le Roux and Parry, 2017) the current generation of university

students displays an increasing propensity for media multitasking behavior with

digital devices such as laptops, tablets and smartphones. A growing body of empirical

evidence has shown that this behavior is associated with reduced academic

performance. In this study, it is proposed that the subject area within which an

individual is situated may influence the relationship between media multitasking and

academic performance.

According to (Chen and Li, 2017) Using a two-wave panel in Hong Kong, this

study examines how different uses of social media contribute to individuals’ social

capital and psychological well-being. Findings showed that communicative use and

self-disclosure on mobile social media were positively related to bonding and

bridging capital and psychological well-being. Friending was also positively related to

bridging capital, but not to bonding capital and psychological well-being. Moreover,

both bonding and bridging capital mediated the relationship between mobile social

media use and psychological well-being. This study highlights the unique social and

technological affordances of smartphones by examining mobile social media use and

how it contributes to quality of life.

According to (Ansari, J. A. N., and Khan, N. A.,2020), The use of social

media and mobile devices presents both advantages and challenges, mostly in terms

of accessing course contents, video clips, transfer of instructional notes, etc. Overall,

students feel that social media and mobile devices are cheap and convenient tools for

obtaining relevant information. The purpose of this research project was to explore

how learning and teaching activities in higher education institutions were affected by

the integration and application of mobile devices in sharing resource materials,

interactions with colleagues, and students’ academic performance.

According to (Anderson & Jiang, 2018; Duggan et al., 2015 GLSEN et al.

2013). that a recent study by the Pew Research Center on teenagers' habits and

experiences of using social media indicated that a majority felt more connected to

their friends, interacted with a more diverse group of people, and felt supported when

they used social media (Anderson & Jiang, 2018). Gender minority groups (e.g.,

lesbians, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth) may particularly benefit from the use

of social media and other online resources that provide information, support, and

feelings of meaningfulness, as well as those social media outlets that may assist in

identity development and civic connectedness (GLSEN et al., 2013). Additionally,

researchers have noted the potential of social media platforms to provide a prompt for

reminiscence and increased meaning in life and have demonstrated how deeper

engagement with personal social media content can facilitate connections with others,

enhance self-knowledge, and increase a sense of connection between present and past

selves (Thomas & Briggs, 2016). Research with young adults in Australia identified

"Facebook connectedness" to be distinct from other forms of social connectedness

and to be significantly associated with lower depression and anxiety and greater life

satisfaction (Grieve et al., 2013).

Local Studies

According to (Olipas Cris, 2022) New opportunities and problems emerge as

the global landscape thrives and people continue to innovate. Globalization and

ongoing innovations necessitate the continuous improvement of educational quality

and the teaching and learning process so that future generations can benefit from

today's efforts. To keep current and informed of new environmental advances, it is

necessary to learn, unlearn, and relearn. Learning is without a doubt one of the keys to

success. It is a change process in which human dispositions or talents may evolve as a

result of obtaining various knowledge and skills necessary for tackling future issues

and opportunities. It might result in change as a result of experiences and new

knowledge and expertise gained. Learning entails strengthening. while weakening the

correct abilities, qualities, and characteristics They are inaccurate. As a result,

learning is a critical component in realizing one's full potential. It demonstrates that

learning propels people to tremendous heights. As a result, breakthroughs and

innovations are continually seen and achieved over time. Teaching and learning in the

twenty-first century are now practiced. Several academic institutions have already

transitioned from the traditional method of providing quality education to a more

modern and technology-driven approach. sacrificing quality in order to achieve

educational goals in various parts of the world.

(Mercado, 2019) Students primarily use the following social media platforms:

Messenger (for communication), Wikipedia (for references), Facebook (for updates),

Instagram (for photo sharing), YouTube (for video tutorials), and many others.

Furthermore, the Department of Education (DepEd) is prohibiting "like-based"

outputs on social media sites, in which students are asked to post their works on social

media and their grades are based on the number of likes they receive.

Similarly, the Department of Information and Communications Technology

(DICT, 2019) stated that when students are asked to post their work on social media

sites, they are more likely to be bullied (cyberbullying). Students will feel more

pressure as a result of the number of likes they receive. They also stated that

comparing their results to those of others who are dissatisfied with the outcome is

more likely to cause depression in young people. They also advocate for student

productivity: teachers should engage their students in performing tasks that include

their hobbies and interests; teachers should also avoid using social media sites to

disseminate information, such as assignments and school updates.

Furthermore (Aaron Smith and Monica Anderson, 2018) The specific platform

they use, such as Facebook, is a subvariable. Youtube, Instagram, Pinterest, Snapchat,

Linkedin, and Twitter, as well as their frequency of use. People use social media

platforms to stay in touch with friends, pass the time, share ideas, and make their lives

easier.

According to (De Guzman, 2021) In our modern environment, social media is

like a wrecking ball that smashes down boundaries of exclusivity to improve unity in

our pluralistic society. Because new knowledge from diverse cultures and ethnicities,

regardless of distance, piques our curiosity in participating in online exchanges, It

provides comforts and a plethora of easily available information for our daily use. We

can clearly see from these that modern technology has become an integral element of

human growth, particularly in the sphere of education. Today, the majority of internet

users are technology natives, including high school and college students who grew up

with knowledge and experience of digital technologies as a tool for entering social

media, such as computers, cellphones, and others.

Foreign Literature

According to eLearning Industry (Willbold Manuela, 2019) the biggest

advantage of social media is better communication (eLearning Industry, n.d.). A

student can connect with anyone at any point in time via Kids Messenger or

WhatsApp. They can use such platforms via their smartphone, tablet, or computer,

and learners can exchange questions, make phone calls or video calls... Social media

promote learning by offering support with sharing documents as well, such as via

Google Drive Box, Google Docs. Some teachers even connect with their class via

Facebook live, like Dr. Belinda George, 42, who films herself reading a children's

book in her living room in her pajamas every Tuesday evening, which anyone can

watch on Homer Drive Elementary School's Facebook page, online messages,

comments, news, articles, and books provide an endless list of information to be read,

and students are motivated to devote their time and put some extra efforts towards

their learning. Such online activities contribute to the child's general learning, and

kids eventually develop stronger reading habits resulting in a drastic improvement in

their writing abilities. Social media sites are, for the most part, interactive, and this

definitely keeps the student involved (eLearning Industry, n.d.).

According to (Hashem H., 2022) social media is a great place for

students to find mentors and training programs to learn new skills and take steps

toward future career goals. It’s also a great place for businesses to advertise their

services, software, and programs. On YouTube, you can find amazing tutorials to

hone your skills for free. The sky’s the limit when it comes to online learning

opportunities today. Social media is known for bringing up new topics. While many

conversations (or arguments) may seem too controversial and divisive, they can bring

up important themes to discuss with people you care about and trust. You can also

join groups for specific hobbies or industries to engage in discussions, learn, and

grow.

According to an article written by (Uhls et al.,2017) The literature on social

media and adolescents, as well as more extensive studies of emerging adults, reveals

associations between time spent using social media and increased self-esteem,

increased social capital (resources accessed through one’s social relationships), safe

identity exploration, social support, and more opportunity for self-disclosure.12,13

These processes are all critical to healthy growth and identity development. In

addition, social media tools have been found to be beneficial for youth who may have

learning difficulties or those struggling with their sexual identity. Research confirms

that by increasing the likelihood that these adolescents can find like-minded youth,

online social media tools may help them feel less lonely and more confident.

According to the NSW Department of Education (retrieved 2022), technology

has made it easier for people to share a wide range of news and information,

highlighting the need to consider the reliability of online content. Determining the

authenticity of information can be challenging, particularly when it appears to

originate from a trusted friend or an official source. To develop critical thinking skills,

the following strategies can be employed which are engage in discussions about how

the choice of words, videos, and images can influence one's perception of

information. Identify trustworthy sources of information and engage in conversations

about the criteria that establish their reliability. Educate children about the importance

of questioning the reliability and source of information, both in online platforms and

other media.

According to (Ministry of Education, 2016). In a rapidly changing

world, students need to develop skills that will best prepare them for the workforce in

the 21st century. Since the rise of technology in the digital age, the competencies

students need to succeed in the workforce have evolved. Some of the most vital skills

students need to develop are critical thinking, communication, collaboration,

creativity, and innovation.

Learning about and adapting to new learning theories is part of an

educator's duty in preparing pupils to be global citizens. The advancement of

technology and social media has increased students' access to information and

knowledge contact with others. Students must now be able to access and use digital

resources made available by communities of people (Goldie, 2016).

Local Literature

According to the Habi (2021) wrote on one of their articles, utilizing social

media for learning makes sense when we think of learning as a social process. If we

recall Vygotzky and his social learning theories, the social context has a major

influence on the learning process – learning takes place in the interactions a learner

has with their peers, teachers, and other experts. Social media can thus provide this

social context, since how we would usually interact, discuss, collaborate, and learn

from our peers and each other in the classroom has become digital during the

pandemic. Following this social learning theory, educators could also look into

designing these digital environments to enhance and maximize learning in the same

way that we design our schools and classrooms. We can also use social media to

cultivate lifelong learning in a seamless and natural way! Social media has become

ingrained in our day-to-day lives, and it is also full of informal learning experiences

that a learner can engage with at their own pace and discretion. Opportunities are

plenty for educators to maximize this to support and enhance the learning experiences

they make for their students.

According to Asian Journal (2020), a sociologist from the University of the

Philippines (UP) came to the defense of Filipinos, insisting that the public’s

relationship to social media should not immediately be characterized as an

“addiction.” “The fact that Filipinos spend a lot of time on social media result from a

lot of different factors,” said UP sociologist Athena Presto. According to Presto, the

global health crisis is one of the reasons why Filipinos spend a long amount of time

online. Another is slow internet connection.

According to PHILSTAR (2020), an official of the Department of Education

(DepEd) has warned against the use of social media for education purposes.

Education Undersecretary Alain Del Pascua said, “Social media as a tool for

collaboration and communication could defeat its purpose if not used properly and

may cause serious problems. It can also be a tool that could provide gaming

applications, marketplace or online services and viewing of different multimedia

content which are not appropriate to the level of maturity of young learners,” he

added. Other problems may include access to adult content that may elicit malicious

or incorrect values; cyber bullying, identity theft, online gambling, pornography, and

market fraud; and distraction due to various available materials that could result in

poor performance.

According to Sagisag PH (2021), "the Digital Revolution may have been only

beginning but it’s indisputably leaving pronounced marks to the society. Although

slowly, Filipinos are coping with it. Students are using it to better themselves in

academics and researches, as well as to connect with other people.

According to SDO of Balanga City (2017), "The more time students spend on

social sites, the less time they spend socializing in person. Because of the lack of body

signals and other nonverbal cues, like tone and inflection, social networking sites are

not an adequate replacement for face-to-face communication. Students who spend a

great deal of time on social networking are less able to effectively communicate in

person. The popularity of social media, and the speed at which information is

published, has created a lax attitude towards proper spelling and grammar. These

reduces a student’s ability to effectively write without relying on a computer’s spell

check feature."

Research Methodology

In this chapter, the researchers will centralize on the discussion of the research

methods and procedures that would help to answer systematically the specified

problems focused for investigation.

Research Design

For this study, the researchers chose a correlational survey design because it

provides measures of two variables that would help understand and assess the

statistical relationship between the variables. This design would help to answer

questions and the purpose of the study. Respectively, this strategy would be used to

determine the strength and direction of the relationship between two variables. Thus,

this study would also help to establish the reliability and viability of measurements.

Furthermore, with this study, the hypothesis that the researchers have included would

be assessed using a set of data that is accurate and effective.

Research Locale

This research was conducted in Fiat Lux Academe around January 2023. The

researchers would be conducting a study to explore the beneficial usage of social

media on the learning skills of the students in Fiat Lux Academe.

Participants of the Study

The students from Fiat Lux Academe of General Trias, who are enrolled in

Senior High School of S.Y 2022-2023 are the study’s participants which are

composed of 278 respondents from Grade 11 and 175 respondents from Grade 12. It

is sufficient to conduct this research using the senior high school population.

Furthermore, the researchers use the Slovin’s Formula to know the sample size

of the study being conducted. There would be a total of 212 Respondents from Grades

11 and 12 for the survey to be conducted by the researchers.

Sampling Technique

For this study, the researchers will use stratified sampling technique wherein

the sample population is partitioned into two strata based on the two selections which

is 4-6 hours and 7-10 hours. An effective sampling technique that assures

representation from various demographic segments is stratified sampling. The

researcher recognizes the possibility of enhancing the learning skill variations among

students who spend various amounts of time on these platforms by stratifying the

population based on social media usage time. By considering potential demographic

variances, this method enables a more detailed investigation of the association

between social media use and learning skills. With the researcher’s objective to

determine if there is a significant relationship between the numbers of hours used on

social media and the learning skills of the senior high school students, stratified

sampling technique will help aim to fulfill the objective.

Research Instruments

The research instruments used in this study are survey questionnaires. It was

used to gather the needed data for this research to determine the beneficial usage of

social media on the learning skills of senior high school students in Fiat Lux

Academe. The questionnaires are divided into two (2) parts. Number one is the

demographic profile of the student, and number two is the 5-point Likert scale using

frequency, which contains two (2) segments. The first part will need the student’s

name, age, grade level, and strand. The second part contains the pre-survey questions

to know if they use social media, what social media is their most used, how many

hours they use social media daily, and their purpose in using social media. Part two of

the survey consists of questions regarding the learning skills of students in terms of

the 4Cs of the 21st Century, which contains seven questions in each category. The

categories are named as critical thinking, two is creativity, three is collaboration, and

lastly, communication. In each group, the question is how utilizing social media

enhances their learning skills. Thus, It would be the basis to identify the benefits of

using social media on their learning skills. Data would be impossible to gather

without these instruments.

Data Gathering Procedure

1. The researchers have sent a requisition letter to the principal and department

head for permission to conduct the study upon approval, respondents’

consent is a must. The consent agreement will be distributed to research

participants about their partaking in the prepared survey.

2. The data collection for this study was conducted through onsite considering

the current situation and ease to gather the needed information to be used in

the entire study. The respondents of Fiat Lux Academe consisted of 212

students from grade 11 to grade 12. The survey contained their personal

information such as their name grade, strand (STEM, ABM, HUMSS, HE or

ICT), and age.

3. The researchers used stratified method for the survey, targeting students who

mainly use social media. With pre-survey questions on top of the paper

followed by a Likert scale questionnaire using a 5-point scale to verify the

frequency of how the usage of social media benefits the learning skills of

Senior High School students of Fiat Lux Academe.

4. Afterwards researchers collected, tallied, and tabulated the data for

interpretation. Based on the data, the researchers come up with a conclusion

and recommendation for this study.

profile can aid in developing targeted interventions or strategies for

specific groups of students.

2. Conduct a thorough survey or interview to collect information about the

social media platforms that respondents use on a daily basis. This will

provide a comprehensive knowledge of the platforms that the students

favor. Consider asking follow-up questions on the reasons for their

platform selection, such as functionality, content, or social interactions.

Understanding the leading platforms can help educational institutions,

instructors, and parents identify the most successful communication,

engagement, and information dissemination routes.

3. Determine the average number of hours per day that respondents spend on

social media. This data can provide insights into the extent to which

students use social media and the possible benefits to their learning

skills. It can aid in the identification of social media and enable focused

interventions to achieve a healthy balance of social media use and other

activities.

4. Investigate and evaluate the learning skills of the students in relation to the

4C's of the 21st Century (Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration,

Communication). Use validated assessment tools or surveys to measure

and analyze students' proficiency levels in these skills. This information

can guide educators and parents in designing instructional strategies and

activities that enhance these essential 21st-century skills. It can also help
