Local Demo Final

The document summarizes a science lesson plan about volcanic eruptions for grade 9 students. The lesson includes discussing what happens during volcanic eruptions through a simulation activity and video analysis. Students work collaboratively in groups to apply their understanding and develop communication plans to prepare their families for volcanic disasters. Formative assessment involves students reflecting on their experiences during the Taal Volcano eruption and how to help reduce risks from future eruptions.

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard The learners demonstrate volcanoes found in the Philippines
B. Performance The learner should participate in disaster awareness activities to
Standard reduce the negative effects of volcanic eruptions.
C. Learning Explain what happens when volcanoes erupt S9ES - IIIb -28
Competencies / 1. Describes what happens when volcano erupts.
Objectives (Write the 2.Using a model, simulate a volcanic eruption.

volcanic eruption.

II. CONTENT A. Topic: Volcanic Eruption

B. Science Ideas: When volcanoes erupt they can spew hot, dangerous
gases , ash ,lava and rock that can cause disastrous loss of life and
property, especially in heavily populated areas. Being self-aware during a
volcanic eruption is essential for survival. It is important to stay
informed about the current situation, listen to instructions from
authorities, and have an emergency plan in place.
C. Science Processes: observing, communicating

of the new lesson. Volcanic Eruption (2 minutes)

(Divide the students into three groups and assign them to the volcanic
eruption simulation activity.)

Materials:

- Model volcano
- Baking soda
- Vinegar
- Red food coloring
-dish soap
- activity sheets

The teacher will ask the students to reflect on what they learned about the
process of a volcanic eruption. Students will be asked to share their
thoughts and observations.

D. Discussing new
concepts and Guide Questions
practicing new skills 1. How do you feel after participating in the activity?
#1. 2. What happens when you add the vinegar to baking soda?
3. Describe the shape of the volcano. Why is volcano have
different shape?
4. Describe what happens when your model of volcano erupts?
Is it the same way as the real volcano erupts?
E. Discussing new
concepts and Strategies : Inquiry Based

#2. Activity: EIBU
E-Experience(Watch the two video clips to get a better understanding of
volcanic eruptions.)
I-Inform (Collect and analyze information from video clips)
B-Build Knowledge (Processing ideas)
U-Understand (Understand the Concept)
Video Analysis
(Watch two video clips, the first of which is a 58-second clip from the film
"2012"). Taal Volcano Eruption, January 12, 2020) is the second video,
which lasts 47 seconds.)

Read and answer the questions that follow after watching the two
videos.
1. How would you describe the super volcano eruption in the film
"2012"?

2. How will you compare this eruption to the Taal Volcano explosion
on January 12, 2020?

3. What do you think caused Taal Volcano's eruption?

4.What effects do volcanic eruptions have on us? How can we prepare
for this natural disaster?
F. Developing Mastery
(Leads to Formative Collaborative ( 2 minutes)
Assessment) Activity: TDAR
Think-(Analyze the video taken last January 12,2020)
Discuss- (Share ideas to the group members on how to solve the
problems)
Act (Collaborate with others)
Reflect (Introspects on the results made by the group)

Reminiscing on the past. (January 12,2020)

(Watch the video clip about the devastation that happens when a
volcano erupts.)

Are you prepared if a volcano erupts again, with or without

warning? Is your family ready to act in the event of a volcanic
eruption? What if something happens while you are away from
your family? Will you be able to reach them? How will you know
that they are safe?

Create a family communication plan so that you can stay in

touch with your loved ones. Ranking your strategy according to
strategic relevance and urgency using the volcano island.

G. Providing practical Based on your experience with the Taal Volcano Eruption, what
application/s of actions have you taken to help your family reduce the risk posed by
concept/s and skill/s an erupting volcano?
in daily living.

H. Making
generalizations and TASK 5: SMALL GROUP DIFFERENTIATED ACTIVITIES (3
abstractions about minutes)
the lesson. Constructivism Approach
Activity-Based(3A’s Activity)
Act-Each group will be given a task.

Group I -Verbal Linguistics

•Describe what happens when a volcano erupts.

Group 2 -
Musical intelligence
Make a simple rhythm/song about what happens when a volcano
erupts, emphasizing the importance of self-awareness in the face of
an erupting volcano.

Group 3- Bodily-Kinesthetic
Create a slogan based on what you learned from today's discussion.

Analyze- Brainstorming of the members on the assigned task.

Directions: Read the questions or statements carefully. Choose the
letter that best describes the answer. Write your answer on your
paper.

1. Which of the following happens why do people near a volcano need

to evacuate before it erupts?
I. Hot lava can spew out in gentle streams or can erupt violently into
the air.
II. Death and serious injury to people and animals may result from
burns and inhalation of hot ash and gases.
III. After erupting from the volcano, hot lava will solidify instantly
once an object gets in its way as it flows trapping anything in its
path.
IV. The extreme temperatures of rocks and gas inside pyroclastic
flows can cause combustible material to burn.
A. II, III and IV only
B. III and IV only

C.Causing lung disease due to ash fall
D.accumulation of deadly gases in the atmosphere

3.Read the following statements and identify which statement(s)

is(are) correct.
I. Volcanic eruption could be predicted, that’s why it is important to
follow the advice of the authority if evacuation is needed.
II. It is important to wear mask during and after the eruption because
suspended volcanic ashes could cause respiratory-related diseases.
A.Only the first statement is correct.
B.Only the second statement is correct.
C.Both statements are correct.
D.Both statements are incorrect.

4. All volcanoes can eject lava, rocks, gas or ash, which can cover the
surrounding land. When this happens, it is called ________.
A.Volcanic explode
B.Volcanic Eruption
C.Volcanic Materials
D.Cannot be determined

5. Which of the following is the correct sequence to the event that

happens when volcano erupts?
