    Students will begin thinking about the language they use to address students and showcase thinking in a
    Think-Puzzle-Explore organizer with groupmates.

    Assessment of Evidence Outcomes:


    Students will be asked to share their Puzzles and paths to Explore. Organizer worksheets will also be
    collected to assess all thinking.

    Activity Name Think-Puzzle-Explore

    Approx. Time 10 min

    Anticipatory Set I will ask if anyone has had an experience with a teacher when the
    words that the teacher has used has been harmful to their classroom
    experience. I will say we are looking at the language and word choice
    we use with students. And if that language is beneficial or detrimental.

    Teaching/Presentation: I will bring up examples:


    ● Do you have questions vs what questions do you have
    ● This one is easy vs I think you are ready for this one
    What are we assuming about our students with these examples?

    Practice Students will think about their language and what it could mean to
    students with a Think-Puzzle-Explore individual/optional collaboration
    activity

    Closure I will ask if anyone would like to share their puzzles and ways to
    explore that puzzle.

    Materials Worksheets, writing utensils

    Assessment Students will be assessed based on their worksheets; if they thought


    about their language and word choice.
