Course Title: Week 8:
1. Patient Transfer
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the lecture discussion, the students are expected to:
1. Identify and address challenges that may arise during patient transfers by applying
appropriate solutions.
2. Identify the process and steps on patient transfer.
3. Demonstrate proficiency in using transfer aids and equipment such as gait belts, transfer
boards, and wheelchairs
4. Apply correct body mechanics and ergonomics while ensuring the patient's comfort and
safety.
5. Perform safe transfers, including bed-to-chair transfers, chair-to-bed transfers, and transfers
to and from other surfaces, using appropriate equipment and techniques.
6. Proficiently use various transfer aids and equipment, adapting them to different patient
needs
7. Exhibit effective communication skills when interacting with patients during transfers.
8. Adapt transfer techniques to accommodate patients with diverse physical abilities and
conditions.
9. Preserve patient dignity and respect their autonomy throughout the transfer process.
10. Implement infection control measures consistently during patient transfers to prevent the
spread of infections.
11. Accurately and promptly document relevant information before and after patient transfers,
including patient condition and any complications
12. Participate in the evaluation and assessment of patient transfers, seeking feedback from peers and
supervisors to improve performance.
13. Engage in self-reflection and seek opportunities for ongoing improvement in patient transfer skills.

3. Simulation
Each student will go to their assigned PCI’s.
Create realistic patient transfer scenarios in a controlled environment. Simulators,
mannequins, or standardized patients can be used to mimic real-world situations
Have students practice different types of transfers, such as bed-to-chair, chair-to-bed, and
more complex scenarios.
Students will respond to patients concerns, questions and needs.
PCI will assess and grade according to their performance.
4. Feedback and Correction
After simulation, PCI will provide constructive feedback to students.
