knowledge. Ang advantage sa mga estudyante nga
non-education ilang teacher ky dili kaayo ingon ana
ka strikto kay kasagaran sa mga non-education
teachers medyo lax lang man.(P3, D5)
(The disadvantage of having non-education
teachers to teach, I would admit also, is that learners
won’t be able to get much from the teacher since the teacher is
limited in terms of knowledge. The advantage for the pupils to
have an non-education teacher is that they
will have a teacher not that strict because most of the non-
education major teachers are lenient).

(P4, D5)
(To the learners, the disadvantage is like I said, I do
not really know how to teach music and drawing, so
they too can not really learn from me)

At the start of my teaching career, I found it hard to handle the

different attitudes of learners, especially those naughty ones. I
struggled to appease those talkative, roaming, and disobedient
kids. (P4, D1)

I sleep late every night preparing lesson plans and

materials for tomorrow's class. I also search for
unfamiliar lessons for me. (P3, D3)

I got stressed every night doing searching and

computing math lessons because I was not a big fan
of math when I was a student. Now, I find it hard to
cope with the lessons every day at the start of my job.(P2, D4)

142

(Although I sometimes find it hard but the thing is, I am

able to manage it by asking for help from the veteran
teachers, doing your own research, and studying
more. These are my techniques or strategies to
handle the task at hand.)

nako tun-an. Mao ni akong mga techniques or strategies. (P3,
D1)
(I am able to do the tasks because I seek from the
veteran teachers, research on my own, and learn all I
have to learn. These are my techniques or strategies.)

Kay nahatagan man kog task mutudlo og laing

subjects, giapply nako ang mga techniques og
strategies nga natun-an nako sa mga trainings og
seminars nga giconduct sa DepEd. Nakatabang ni sa
akoa sa pagbuhat sa kada lesson. (P1, D3)
(Being tasked to teach subjects out of my field, I just
applied the techniques and strategies being imparted
to us by the DepEd during every training and seminar
they have conducted to us. This helped me in doing
every lesson)

Daghan kaayong strategies, actually. Ganahan man

ko makatuon pinaagi sa pagbuhat. Nagaresearch pud

(A lot of strategies, actually. I am fond of learning by

doing. I also do research and ask for help like I
consult my colleagues especially those who are
already veterans in teaching).

Unya
ikaw lang ang non-education nga teacher. I think lisud
(P1, D2)
(We rely on each other a lot. That is where my support
143

comes from. And we talk, everyone works as a group.

And I think it would be really hard if you were all on
your own in this school. And you were the only non
education teacher. I think that would be really hard
and I would not like it. So I really count on my other
teachers.)

akoa. (P5, D2)
(Although I sometimes find it hard but the thing is, I am
able to manage it asking for help from the veteran
teachers, doing your own research, and studying
more. These are my techniques or strategies to
handle the task at hand).

Yeah, the resilience that I see of other teachers and

having that monthly meeting you get to see that. You
see their frustration with the impossible job, you see
their dealings with the impossible job, you see their
love of what they do; and they wouldn’t do anything
else if they could, so they stay and they do and (um)
that you know they are there, they are there for the
long haul and that has been really, really nice.
(P4, D3)

kanyang areas, mapa-transition or obstacles..tungod
ani, nagatapok tapok mi once in a while og
magstoryahanay sa among mga nasinatian nga
pareha namo naagian…Mapa-formal man nga
meeting or kaswal lang nga inistoryahanay,
storyahanay ra kung unsa among gibuhat. Ambot lang pero
mas mafeel nako nga connected ko sa faculty as a whole
among mga experiences unya mangayo og advices. (P2, D2)

(We meet in a certain situation where non-education

teachers deal with certain areas, whether it is
transition, or whether obstacles; where we get
together once in a while and just talk with other
144

teachers who are going through the same thing.…

Whether it is a formal meeting or just a casual
conversation, talking about what we do. Um I don’t
know it just kind of makes me feel more connected to
the faculty as a whole if, even if it doesn’t make a
difference, it’s just going out and letting other people
know who we are and what we’re doing there and
sharing our experiences and asking for advices).
MQ3 Of course, since I was tasked to teach these subjects,
I willingly accepted it. I took it as a challenge. For me,
acceptance is the key. Then I find ways to learn. I surf
the internet and read more resources about certain
things that I don’t know. This is my major strategy.
One technique is that I also don’t go beyond my
knowledge. If I don’t know that particular topic, I only
learn the basics and then leave those topics that are
really out of my background knowledge(P1, D4)

In times of difficulty, I never hesitate to ask my

co-teachers to make sure that I do what is right
and to avoid error and rework (P3, D4)

I have no idea about memos and orders by

issued by the department especially thoseold one, that is why I
open my queries to my co-teachers or even my school head (P3,
D3)

(P1, D2)
(To the learners, the advantage for them is that they
got a teacher despite the scarcity of teachers
nowadays. Though their teacher might be not that
expert in teaching but I guess the most important
thing is that this teacher is eager to help them to learn
the best way she can. The disadvantage is that
sometimes they do not get answers to every question
they ask, I must admit.)
