Ans: the Rajput style of miniature painting was popular in the sultanate period.
The Lodi dynasty popularized it.
4) Describe the administrative division and the social division of the Delhi
sultanate.
Ans: The administrative division of the sultanate in descending order was on the
following pattern: Provinces, shiqs, parganas and villages. A governor ran the
administration of a province with the help of officers called muqtis. The village
was the smallest administrative unit of the sultanate. Its administration was run
by the muqaddam, patwari and munsif. The village panchayats used to settle
local disputes.
The society was divided into four groups –
a. Aristocrats: They formed the highest and the most powerful group in the
social hierarchy.
b. Priests: the class considered of religious and legal scholars like the Ulema and
Qazi, and Hindu Brahmins. The Muslim religious held high positions in the
administration.
c. Town people: They comprised traders, artisans and craftsmen.
d. Farmers: They formed the class of the common people. The farmers were the
most oppressed class. They were often subjected to heavy taxes.
