Task 1 – Part 1

What do you want to achieve over the final 8 weeks on the

Foundation Programme?

Please respond to the questions below as a starting point. This

document is a Prop/Prompt for you and your developed answers
should be loaded as a scribd document in an appropriate position
on your Weebly site. You will update this proposal as you move
through the project, do not delete initial statements, add a date
each time you add a new statement to a particular section.

The final document should be loaded to your Weebly by the 6th of

May.

Question 1
Reflect on your work you've created so far and consider on how your use of materials,
tools, techniques and processes reflect the broader ideas and message that you are interested to
convey.

What materials, tools, techniques and processes have you used and how can you employ a broader
range of materials and techniques to explore your theme in Module 3?

The work that I’ve created to so far, I have used techniques more so online applying
photomontage, including sights such as Photoshop and illustrator, through Module 3, I
plan to incorporate a broader range of materials and techniques. Experimenting with
fabric dyes and some derived from natural plants and Botanics will add an organic element
to my work. I want to expand my techniques Using textiles and embroidery which is
introducing a more 3D element to my work within creating different forms. From this I will
aim to deepen my exploration of the theme and create a more Immersive experience of
the beauty and complexity of botanical flowers.

Question 2
Reflect upon the audience and method of dissemination for your work.

What does it communicate and who is it communicating to? What does it offer to the
viewer/customer/client and their lifestyle? Where will the work be situated? How can you market
your work?

For my Project “Botanics” I would like to show the intricate beauty of plant life through life
drawings and textures. My aim Is to inspire a an appreciation for nature by showing the
detailed structures and vibrant colours of various botanical forms. I would like this project
to direct towards nature lovers, and anyone interested in environmental conservation. I
would of liked my Outcome to be shown in galleries, botanical gardens, and other public
venues. How I’d like to market my work would be through eco-friendly brands, and visiting
botanical gardens can also help in promoting my project. Going to art fairs and having my
work on display at exhibitions, Also thinking about online stores such as Etsy. Social media
is also a great way to market work, My favourite app is Pinterest and showing my work on
this could reach out to a broader audience

Question 3
We make, design, and produce work to be shared, and to elicit a reaction or provoke a response.

What response would you like to provoke in your Audience/Client/Viewer/User? Are you the kind of
designer/artist/producer who aims to disrupt - to entertain or to question? Is your work ironic,
playful, educational or political? Use this space to think about the response of your target audience
on viewing your work - how do you want them to react? What is an ideal response?

For this project, I want my work to be a lot more playful, Through doing embroidery I think
a lot of experimentation is necessary and I like to explore this more. My project doesn’t
really have much of a message, I just want the audience to appreciate the beauty that we
have of natural life of flowers and Botanics, because they really are stunning.

Task 1 – Part 1

What is your Project Concept?

In previous projects, we have focused on outcomes or objects, for this module we

are expecting you to design an investigation and for this to lead to an appropriate
outcome/object which embraces your specialism and matches your burgeoning
ambition.
Please outline the project themes - and the ideas that you wish to explore. Focus on the meaning
behind the work rather than processes, materials or skills. (There is a space for this information
further on in the document) This is a short module - so it is critical that you make a swift decision
and commit to an investigation early. We know that this is hard - but push yourself and work to
get to the making, design and production stage with confidence.

My project theme is botanicals, I want explore different botanical and floras through life
studies. I want to be able to capture the authentic life of flowers through more whimsical
and free-lance drawings, I will be doing this to capture a more real perspective so my work
has a natural feel. I want to explore embroidery, through looking textile artists who have
inspiring pieces, this will be through fashion collections and textile art exhibition. Through
embroidery I want to focus a lot on detail capturing the intricate parts of Botanics. I Will
also show research from environmental aspects, and a slight touch on women’s history. I’m
also interested in looking at beading.

Please give an overview of the project here.

What will your work look like? What technologies/tools/equipment/processes will you use?

My work will be textile out outcome, displayed as 3 individual wall hangings, Id like my
work to be presented in a hoop so the final outcome looks more refines and polished. I will
need a nail and a hanger to create this collection and making sure the placement of my
three objects are in the correct placement. Through the process I will be using fabric dyes
and a needle and thread to create three embroidered botanical designs.

What skills will you need to develop in order to complete the work?
What will you need to learn? What existing strengths do you have that can help you to succeed?

The skills I will need to develop are my embroidery skills, I’ve never done this technique
so learning skills such as French Nots etc I will need to develop. I will do this be doing this
by doing lots of tests such as on paper through my drawings and on fabric. Embroidery
takes a lot of time so making sure my time management is good is a key aspect. I will also
be looking at fabric/brusho dyes, so making sure I’m considering the health and safety
aspects, if I’m using chemicals e.g. bleach.

What will you do to sustain your practice and to develop your motivation,
understanding and confidence?
This focus of this question is your research practice - what has already inspired, informed and
influenced you? How can you push yourself beyond your comfort zone here?

I’ve always felt inspired by Alexander McQueen, he’s always been a great influence for
me as I find his collections enticing so I always love including him in any research tasks.
Influencing me work through this project is the fashion design Nguyen Cong Tri, so far for
what I’ve researched his eye for detail and embroidery is stunning. I want push my myself
with using colour and being more experimental. I think deciding to do embroidery, is
encouraging my creative mind within learning a new skill. I also want to work a lot more
with colour in this project. I also love my work to be bright and to stand out. I think colour
and detail for me is an impactful part within my own creative practice.
Task 1 – Part 2

This is a short module - and scheduling your activity and planning out your production arc will
help to ensure that you keep the project on track, with time to make a quality artefact for the
exhibition. The best project concept in the world will not lead to a successful outcome without
good, pragmatic planning. Remember, gathering or "procuring" materials will take time - and
supplier availability and high costs will slow you down and impact on your ability to make work.
You must factor this into your schedule. A prohibitively high cost on a particular material or item
may prompt you to investigate a more easily sourced and cheaper alternative, which can
improve your carbon footprint - and improve the "sustainability" of the project.

Resources, Services and Tools - What will I need and what steps
must be taken to ensure access and availability?
What do you think you will need to complete the project? How can you begin to negotiate access
and co-ordinate your making with availability?

Resource - Service or Tool How do I access/acquire What additional understanding,

(Add to the list as you this? expenditure or skill do I need to
progress) exploit this resource well?

Calico Fabric I will access this from the - I will be doing experimentation

Fabric dyes I have my own personal Experimenting with brusho dyes, on

fabric dyes from home. paper, and doing fabric testers.

Embroidery Hoop I will access this from the When looking at the hoops I
art store at bower Ashton preferably want wooden ones, and I
campus will also be looking at the sizes of the
hoops.

Sustainability
Use this page to identify aspects of your project relating to sustainability, unnecessary waste,
and environmental concerns. What might you do to manage this and reduce your impact? If you
can’t manage it directly, could you take action to offset your carbon footprint? How will you plan
for the end of life of your object/s, how will you remove it from the studio at the end of the
exhibition and how will you recycle and dispose of it? What is the recycling / disposal protocol for
the materials you are using? How is this affected once you combine materials together?

To reduce the environmental impact of my project I will be using sustainable materials

when making my final outcome. This will include selecting biodegradable, recyclable and
sustainable materials. I will be planning my zero waste approach by planning the cutting of
my materials to minimise offcuts. Any waste leftover I will keep to reuse, and recycle any
extra, materials that is too small to keep. Planning for the “end of life” of my project I will
ensure that all my materials used are disposed responsibly, and any biodegradable/synthetic
materials are separated and recycled. At the end of the exhibition I will carefully dissemble
my work. Thinking about health and safety hazards and being aware of people around me.
Reusable parts of my exhibition I can store, such as fabrics and My embroidery hoops, for
any future projects. In doing this my project will emphasize the importance of
environmental and sustainable fashion and textiles practices in creative projects.

Task 1 – Part 2

Project Budget
Please list below any cost or expenditure associated with your project. The aim here is to identify
the actual cost of the work you have made, rather than the projected cost of a proposed
outcome. You do not need to list those materials that are freely available in the studios
(paper/pencils/acrylic paint etc) but do include more specific materials such as fabric, wood,
superglue, neoprene etc. You can add to this list as you progress through the project.

Item Purchased Supplier Cost

100% Calico Fabric- 1 Metre Fabric Land £4.99

Embroidery Hoop Fabric Land £2.95

Embroidery Hoop Fabric Land £2.50

Embroidery Hoop Fabric Land £3.25

Beads Fabric Land £1.59

The Exhibition and planning for it is a key part of this module and must be considered alongside your
own emerging project. What are you going to exhibit? How should it be presented? How have other
creatives presented similar work? Research is key to help you to identify formats, conventions, and
approaches to sharing your outcome.

My planned outcome is best described as...

A small 3D object displayed on a table or plinth.

A moving image sequence which could be part

of a showreel.

A virtual tool or artefact accessed through a

computer, tablet or smart phone.

What will need to be in place in order for you to complete your final
piece and to achieve your ambition and aims?

I will need to manage my time well. My project requires a lot of

drawings flowers and follicles from life, and having a lot of
experimentation to work from. Also embroidery takes a lot of
time, so managing my time well is very important for my project
so I can complete all the tasks I want to achieve. For me staying
on task and not being distracted and constantly keeping up to
date. Getting inspired by my pears around me and the work ethic,
and also asking for advice from my personal tutors and lecturers
around me.
Project Planning and Scheduling
You cannot pass this module without completing a schedule. You must complete a realistic
project schedule in order to pass the module. An additional and more detailed day by day
schedule on your website will enhance your submission, but you must complete this one first.

What are the Health and Safety risks associated with my

chosen pipeline, workflow or exhibition method?
You must pick at least three and go on to explain the steps that you will take to ensure your
own safety and that of the people around you while working on the project. Evidence that
you have researched how this is managed in the creative industries AND applied it to your
own situation will enhance your submission.

Please note that while some substances may not be toxic or harmful, they may still have an
adverse impact on your peers. You will need to discuss any materials not already in regular
use in the studio with your tutor.
