ABSTRACT

Sub-watershed prioritization is an essential aspect of watershed management since, due to a

lack of investment, it may not be able to carry out development programs simultaneously for
all corners of a container. The current study uses a multi-criteria ranking system to attempt to
prioritize sub-watershed in Maddalenahalli in the Pavagada Taluk, Tumkur District of
Karnataka. During this process, different factors, such as downfall, drainage density, pitch,
land usage, and land cover are created and determined utilizing data from raindrops,
topographical wastes, and satellite photos in a GIS platform. Talamaradahalli, Puluvalli,
Naliganahalli, Nagalamadake, Maddalenahalli, Gowdatimmanahalli, Devadabetta,
Dalavayihalli, and Byadanur are the nine sub-watersheds that makeup Pavagada. Each
parameter underwent precedence indexing based on the significance of its impact, and overlay
analysis was carried out to identify important sub-watersheds. The construction of check
levees, the use of water harvesting techniques, and the discovery of artificial recharge places
are all necessary for the efficient conservation and management of water resources. The study's
findings indicate that in order to control face water flux and optimize the position of the water
table, priority should be given to the Maddalenahalli sub-watershed where mini-watersheds
were established.
